Daler Mehndi, India’s pan genre celebrated artist, song writer, performer, composer released his latest musical offering. The shabad which he says, lifted his spirits and kept him upbeat in his toughest and darkest of times.
Chardi Kala is a sikh expression, of a state of mind which is always positive, and has the ability to overtake any negative emotion in the face of adversity. It is a blessing that a mother sends off his kid with. It is a smiling response that an ailing father gives to his son lest he worries.
“I was asked by a motherly figure to sing Chardi Kala, make a song on it. In order to honor her desire, I went and composed Chardi Kala but every time I say to write the words, the only words that came to me were those that held me in my toughest time. The shabad authored by Guru Arjan Dev Ji “Jaa Tu Mere Val Hai Ta Kya Mohchhanda” meaning why should I worry when I have YOU.
Nothing embodies Chardi Kala, better than Guru Patshah Ji’s Bani. To me Chardi Kala is Guru Sahab’s Bani.
It is a simple hummable tune that is easy to sing along. I asked my wife Taran Mehndi to sing the backing vocals. You can hear her in the Shabad.
I pray that the way Guru Maharaj held me in my toughest time, you and your families always remain in Chardi Kala and lean on your Divinity at all times.
Daler Mehndi consistently contributes to humanitarian causes, apart from his foot tapping songs, he regularly releases spiritual music, a genre very close to his heart. Namoh Namoh and his Soul to Supreme series are very popular.
