According to the latest information available, the iconic bungalow in which late actor Dev Anand lived for nearly 40 years with his actress-heroine wife, Kalpana (‘Mona’) Kartik, children ( actor) Suneil Anand and daughter Devina, has been sold, we have learned.

The beautiful bungalow, located in the Iris Park area of Juhu (Mumbai), has reportedly been sold to famous developer K Raheja Corp, who earlier had also purchased director-producer B R Chopra’s family home in the same area. “The deal for Dev Anand’s home is done and paperwork is now going on. It has been sold for approximately between Rs. 350-400 crore,” according to sources

Coincidentally, star-actresses Madhuri Dixit Nene and Dimple Kapadia once lived in the apartments in the past in the vicinity of the bungalow which will be demolished and replaced by a tall tower with 22 floors.

The sources further disclosed that the house is being sold as there is no one to look after it: “Dev-saab’s actor-director son Suneil Anand is settled in the US and daughter Devina lives in Ooty with her mother. There is no one in Mumbai to take care of the property and hence, they have taken the decision to sell off the bungalow. In fact, they even sold off their property in Panvel for the same reason,” the sources said

The sources also add that the veteran artiste’s studio Anand Dubbing and Recording Studio at Pali Hill Studio was sold some 10 years ago and the proceeds were used to buy three apartments, one each for his wife, son and daughter. “For the Juhu property too, everyone is expected to get a share,” the insiders reveal…

In an interview, he gave in the 2000s, Anand — who would’ve turned 100 on September 26 this year — had said that he decided to build a house in Juhu in 1950 as he fell in love with its “total wilderness as he loved a reclusive life and loved to be left alone”. Interestingly, although he had his own bungalow, Dev Anand had his favorite double rooms on the third floor in Hotel Sun n Sand at Juhu, where he would fix up his business meetings.

As an eminent film journalist attached to the Mid-Day daily newspaper in Mumbai, I was invited by Dev-saab twice to his Iris Park bungalow and at least five times to his special suite room in Sun’N Sand for media interviews. Sometimes Dev-saab used to invite me to his penthouse-style studio room for his birthdays  (Sept 26^th) in Anand Recording and Dubbing Studio at Pali Hill.
