The Dev above who is also called God has made some wonderful mistakes and Dev Anand was undoubtedly one of Dev’s most wonderful mistakes - Ali Peter John

The Dev above must have felt he was creating any other man when he was in the process of creating Dev, but when he must have seen who he had created, he must have received a complex and even felt threatened when he saw that this man he had created was almost like a replica of him. This pleasing creation of Dev went on to be the legendary Dev Anand.

Dev Anand was an actor, a producer, a director and a writer, but most of all he was a discoverer of talent.

He created directors like Guru Dutt, Vijay Anand, Raj Khosla and finally he even created himself as a director.

He founded his own company, Navketan Films which made several films and also which gave work to hundreds of people in different fields.

He like the Dev above had created his own world, which must have made the Dev above happy, but must have also got him worried, but the Dev Anand he had created was not going to stop, he was a human dynamo that just went on and on till the very end.

Dev Anand was like the Dev above in so many ways. Dev Anand never abused anyone or cursed anyone and did not even gossip or speak evil or run down people.

In all my years with him , I had not seen him saying anything nasty about anyone. For him, there were no rivals, but only competitors who he considered as his friends and not as his rivals who were fighting in a wrestling ring.

He hardly drank or smoke and kept up a regular health routine with his only exercise being walking in the garden of his house and having only one full meal, preferably in the night.

And by the time he was a star he actually became someone like a God. People from all over the world came to him in the hope of his healing them of their ailments, diseases and pain.

He kept telling them that he was a human being like any of them and could only pray for them and certainly not work miracles to heal them, but people still came to him believing that he was the only one who could heal them and save them.

I was sitting with him in his pent house, when four men carrying a very obese woman who was weighing 300 kilos, brought the woman to him.

He l looked sad and there were tears in his eyes. He asked the men, “Aap inko koi doctor ko dikhaaiye, yeh theek ho sakti hai”.

And the men told him that they had shown her to all the major doctors, but nothing had changed and they refused to leave the pent house and told Dev that the woman was convinced that if he touched her she would be healed.

Dev had rarely looked so sad, but he placed both his hands on the woman’s head and told the woman that she would be healed.

The men who had brought her looked at Dev in awe and put the woman down. Dev had tears in his eyes again and told me , “I can’t understand what these people expect from me.”

And the whole scene reminded me of the climax of his film "Guide " where the people expect Raju to bring rain.

Ten days later, the men came back with the same woman and she was now half her weight when she had last come to see Dev.

The woman fell at Dev’s feet and said, “Aap sach mein Dev hai.” And Dev told her, “Main koi Dev nahin hoon. Aapko uparwale Dev ne theek kiya hai, uss par bharosa rakho.”

The woman was completely healed when she came to see Dev the next time. Was this a miracle worked by Dev? You be the judge...

There was a grandmother called Mrs, Sabir, who was the wife of a producer. I had been invited for lunch by the couple.

Mrs. Sabir led me to her kitchen and opened her cupboard and slowly brought out an old photograph of Dev when he was very young and handsome.

She blushed when she showed me the photograph and said that she had the photograph with her for more than 40-years and whenever she felt sick in any way, she had a look at Dev’s photograph and that made all her ailments, aches and pains vanish.

There was the editor of Star & Style whose name was Mrs. Gulshan Ewing who advised her reporters to go and see Dev whenever they had any kind of problems or felt depressed and they always came back smiling after their meeting with Dev.

Actresses like Hema Malini, Sadhana, Raakhee and Tabu went to Dev whenever they had problems with their career and Dev made his best efforts to send them back with their best smiles on their faces.

Hema and Raakhee went to temples on the day any of Dev’s films were released to pray for success for Dev.

Among the male stars who were devotees of Dev were Manoj Kumar and Dharmendra who still worship the memories of Dev .

AAJ ITNE SAALON KE BAAD BHI DEV KO CHAAHNE WALE AUR POOJNEWALON KI BHEED AUR ZYAADA HO GAYI HAI . UPARWALA DEV LAAKH KOSHISH KAREIN TOH DEV JAISA DEV BANA SAKTA HAI, LEKIN DEV ANAND KABHI NAHI BANA SAKTA HAI. YE MERA DAAWA BHI HAI AUR YAKEEN BHI
