Dharmendra was a struggler whose first ambition was to meet or at-least see Dilip kumar. He was one of the many strugglers standing in a crowd outside a studio where Devanand was shooting - ALI PETER JOHN
The shooting for the day ended and Dev was rushing out when his eyes fell on a handsome man and when he called a man and said to him in English," Young man , what are you doing in this crowd, you are not born to stand in this crowd. You are going to stand out one day."
That was the beginning of the rise and rise of an eternal star called Devanand.
Today, almost 60 years later , Dharmendra is still a crazy fan of Dev. He worships Dilip kumar , but he loves Dev...
Ever since the lockdown Dharam who is 85 now had been spending all his time on his farmhouse in lonavala and if you thought that an 85 year old man would be sitting in his chair or lying on his bed , you will be absolutely wrong.
Dharam wakes up at 5 in the morning and does his exercises . He has a pucca vegetarian breakfast and goes for a swim.
He comes back and shows his affection for all the animals on his farm and looks after all the people working on his farm. He has names given to all the animals who he knows very well. There is not a moment when he is idle.
And when he is a little free and in a creative mood , he writes poetry or listens to the old songs of Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi.
And these days he even sings. He was recently heard singing the well known Devanand song ' Abhi na jaao chodh ke ki dil abhi bhara nahi' from Hum Dono.
Some years ago, there were rumours about the farmhouse being sold. What would have Dharam done without his farmhouse if it had been sold.
