DIA MIRZA APPOINTED AS THE UN ENVIRONMENT GOODWILL AMBASSADOR

Bollywood actor, producer and environmentalist, Dia Mirza, was appointed as UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India.  

Dia Mirza shared her excitement to be a part of it and said: “I feel honoured and inspired by this opportunity to work with UN Environment to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.”

She added, “Environmental issues will be the defining challenge of this era, and I am committed to helping the UN as a Goodwill Ambassador to do everything I can to provide a better future. Together, we will continue working towards conservation of nature, tackling climate change and inspiring people to live more sustainably.”

A statement was given to media UN Environment head, Erik Solheim, and he said,  “I am delighted to have Dia Mirza join UN Environment as a Goodwill Ambassador. India faces many challenges, in particular, the air pollution that is choking many of its cities. Dia’s influence can help to turn the situation around and create a healthy future for Indians and their environment.”

The actress has joined other accomplished UN Goodwill Ambassadors, including Gisele Bündchen, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Katy Perry and Emma Watson.

Dia Mirza is a longstanding supporter of environmental conservation and other social campaigns. Mirza has been involved with Cancer Patients Aid Association and Spastics Society of India and has worked extensively with the government of Andhra Pradesh to spread HIV awareness, prevention of female foeticide. She has also involved herself closely with the 'Save Our Tigers' campaign, backed by NDTV and Aircel. She also associated with the NDTV Greenathon – an effort to find tangible solutions to pollution and the book, "Deke Dheko" by Radio Mirchi (a campaign initiated to collect books for underprivileged children).
