Joining her were global influencers like Jude Law, Emily Watson , Zoe Kravitz , Forest Whitekar, Laura Whitmore, Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey, musical legends Annie Lennox, Yusuf/Cat Stevens and others drawn from the world of philanthropy, business, politics and activism. On the occasion, Dia read out 'words of peace,' from a speech by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama where His Holiness speaks of universal responsibility as being the real key to human survival and how it is the best foundation for world peace. Dia shared with hosts Laura Whitmore and Jeremy Gilley, that the words resonated with her because they emphasised the need for altruism and connectedness in personal, professional, political and scientific spheres. Dia agreed with the overarching message of the speech is that if we are to survive as a race , we must recognise and honour our interdependence, interconnectedness and repair our equation with the planet. Because as the Dalai Lama put it, only a collective and consistent practice of altruism and compassion can protect the "delicate matrix of life." Dia highlighted the core issue in the conversation around peace thus, "Peace determines everything. How we feel, think and respond to life's challenges but lasting peace can truly be achieved only when we act on climate change. This climate crisis needs our urgent attention as the collective human problems we are experiencing today is connected to environmental degradation. " She also noted that the world needed more ideological alliances built on the goodwill and cooperation of multitudes and expressed happiness that the UN Secretary General António Guterres had called for a global ceasefire to mark September 21 as truly the day of peace. The 13 hour long event was packed with similar appeals for harmony and synergy including one by actor Jude Law who has been a Peace One Day Ambassador for over a decade. There was also an interview with USG Fabrizio Hochschild, special adviser to the Secretary-General and a dialogue with entrepreneur Richard Branson. As also live interactions with peacekeepers around the world including in Australia, Japan, India, USA, Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo and Colombia. #Dia Mirza Related Articles Advertisment Latest Stories Read the Next Article
