Not many are aware, that versatile actress Raveena Tandon has worked with ‘three-generations of showman director Ramesh Sippy’s family - Chaitanya Padukone
It may be recalled that Raveena who initially was disinterested in acting and facing the movie-camera was launched by ‘late’ iconic producer G P Sippy in the 1991 musical hit movie ‘Patthar Ke Phool’ that too opposite Salman Khan.
Four years later, the senior Sippy’s son, legendary ‘director Ramesh Sippy cast her opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Zamana Deewana’ (1995). As Raveena herself revealed, “Ramesh-jee had mentored me like a “teacher” to take my acting career more seriously and be more focused’.
More recently, Raveena acted in OTT Netflix show ‘Aranyak’ (2021) co-produced and co-written by GP Sippy’s grandson talented Rohan ( Ramesh ) Sippy. Which is now the third generation.
Recently seen as the ‘Indian Prime Minister’ role in blockbuster ‘K.G.F : Chapter 2’ ) the rejuvenated Raveena was being honoured for her “contribution to the film industry” by ‘showman’ ‘Padmashri’ Ramesh (‘Sholay’) Sippy on behalf of his prestigious Cinematic Academy (RSACE) with a special memento.
The felicitation held at the Kalina University campus-auditorium was part of the first-ever formal Convocation Ceremony of the RSACE ( affiliated to Mumbai University) where nearly 40 students got their graduation certificates ,in turn from Raveena, Ramesh and Kiran (Joneja) Sippy (she is the M.D.), Rohan Sippy and other dignitaries..
While heartily congratulating the first batch of students who had graduated having got practical hands-on training, was in one of her upbeat moods as she spoke. “You are in the best hands today, If I have reached a high point today, it all originated from G P Sippy Films who launched me in ‘Patthar Ke Phool’ Which was my education system, my university where my entire learning took place on the ‘PKP’ sets and probably my career evolution began there .
That’s because I started without any formal education in film-making or any acting course. Very emotional moving moment for me here which I will treasure forever and it’s like home-coming right now .
Because it’s like starting off my education from a school and many years later, being honoured by the same school Principal,” enthused Raveena who while speaking to the media said she was not yet inclined to take up’ direction’ “ That’s because I already have my hands-full with quite a few acting assignments.
And then film-direction is a 24 X 7 dedicated-commitment job and is just like conceiving and after going thru the ‘labour pains finally ‘delivering a ‘baby’ And I do not wish to do direction half-heartedly.
When it’s the right time, I will take a call on that,” reacted Raveena whose father ‘late’ Ravi Tandon was a brilliant Hindi film-maker had helmed landmark musical hit-movies like ‘Khel Khel Mein’ , Majboor , Khud-daar, Nazrana and Anhonee.
