Khoon Bhari Maang – The mystery behind Rakesh Roshan’s bald look Actor-turned-director, Rakesh Roshan is known to bring alive some interesting stories on silver screen through his movies like Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish series, Koyla to name a few. After being a versatile actor in 70s and 80s, Rakesh Roshan decided to don the hat of a director. And, as he decided to move on from being an actor to a director he decided to go bald which was a shocker for his fans. While we all have seen him in his bald look for so many years but no one knows the actual story behind it! After the successful run of movie Khudgarz in theaters, Rakesh Roshan announced his most ambitious project, Khoon Bhari Maang. He was ready to kick start this project but his wife, Pinky had put him a condition to go bald before he starts working on the movie. Much to his surprise, Rakesh did not understand the context and asked his wife about the relevance. She reminded him of ‘Khudgarz’, Rakesh’s previous directorial venture that was a huge grosser at the box office. Before the release date of the film, Rakesh Roshan went to Tirupati Balaji and prayed for the success of the film. He promised that he would go bald and offer his hair at the temple if his film is successful and as it turned out to be, Khudgarz is still one of Hindi Cinema’s biggest hits. However, Rakesh Roshan completely forgot about the promise but Pinky was aware of his wish. Therefore, she asked him to do so to complete his wish and express his gratitude to the almighty. After giving it though, Rakesh Roshan finally took it seriously and did as he had promised. Rest is history. Since that day, he has become one of Bollywood’s most successful and acclaimed producer-director. Mohabbatein – Aditya Chopra’s dream to make a movie like Deewar Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was a mega hit and is still considered as one of the finest love stories of modern times. After tasting success with his first venture, Aditya Chopra consciously wanted to keep away from directing another movie portraying timeless romance. He has been an ardent fan of the yesteryears classic ‘Deewar’ and aspired to make movies of that stature and class. He spent years scrutinizing script after script, but none came close to making his dream a reality. That’s when he decided to go ahead with a story written by his mother – as luck would have it, turned out to be a love story. While he was still in the process of going through the initial script – it occurred to him that this was not just another love story, but a story which was contemporary and had magic to create. As he was detailing the script, the two actors who came to his and who according to him could immortalize this script were – Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan. When Amitabh heard the script, he called Yash Chopra and told him that this script clearly reminds him of ‘Dewar’. This meant a lot to a budding director like Aditya – who almost realized his dream and Yashji too. And today, we all know that these characters are none other than Raj Aryan played by Shahrukh Khan and Narayan Shankar played by Amitabh Bachchan in Mohabbatein. Betaab – Undiscovered Kashmir The biggest Bollywood blockbusters have been those where reel has met real. Therefore, when legendary writer Javed Akhtar visualized his words while penning down Betaab, he wanted to infuse more life into the script. Not wasting any time, he went to director Rahul Rawail and expressed his desire of having a picturesque setting for Sunny Doel’s wood-house. To fulfil Javed Akhtar’s wish, director Rahul Rawail set out with his small team hunting for a location. After searching for many days, they finally identified a location, which would be a perfect fit for Sunny Doel’s house. If the exploration was not task enough, Rahul realized that creating a set up on that location was going to be a big challenge as it was a valley. Nevertheless, as they say, creativity is complete when it meets the eye. The team of Betaab defeated logistical challenges and shot the movie.
