He had seen his own struggle and the struggles of his fellow composers and musicians and had decided that if he became a full fledged music director , he would get work for as many musicians as possible - Ali Peter John

And when he became Bappi Lahiri , he had the largest orchestra and had musicians playing every kind of instrument whether the song he was recording needed them or not .

There were several times during the recording of a song when he noticed how some musicians were not playing their instruments and he like R D Burman made sure that they made some sounds with their instruments so that they could get their money for the shift .

When Bappi become a big composer , he bought flats for most of his musicians in a building called Ganga Bhavan in Versova , and it was a record when every musician who worked with him had a car.

No other composer had shown this gesture to his musicians and even to his workers at home.

However ,what I want to narrate in this strange but very true story about Bappi is his love or call it addiction to gold ornaments .

It was after the success of his music in Zakhmee that his mother had presented him with a chain of gold with an image of god . His success grew and with his success grew the number of gold chains and their weight .

A time came when his entire neck and half his chest was covered or rather decorated with gold ornaments . He also started wearing matching clothes and shoes .

His gold ornaments became the talk of the industry and people even made fun of him in parties . In one of the parties , the eccentric Raaj Kumar went up to him and said , " zevar bahut shaandaar hai, lekin manggalsutra kahan hai , jaani ? " But Bappi didn't mind people making fun of him because he knew there was a method in his madness like some of the all time greats like Elvis Presley , Elton John and Michael Jackson had .

He continued wearing his ornaments till he got into politics and felt that his ornaments could go against his chances of winning the elections. But unfortunately, he still lost the elections and went back to all his ornaments again .

One wonders what will happen to all those pure gold ornaments now that Bappi has gone away to a place where things like gold ornaments have no value and only good work and good deeds have .
