Amitabh Bachchan was almost on the verge of giving up after eleven films with him in the main roles flopped in a row and he had to face all kinds of humiliation and was called a panvati star - Ali Peter John

He was finally called by a leading producer who asked him to request Mumtaz who was considered a lucky mascot for actors facing a bad time in their careers.

The filmmaker who was a leading director too was not even willing to direct Amitabh and asked one of his assistants to direct the film

Mumtaz was already impressed with Amitabh's performance in some of his films and agreed to work with Amitabh for whom this film ,Bandhe Haat was his last chance to try and survive in the race of the heroes .

Both Amitabh and Mumtaz worked very hard to make the film succeed . But destiny was still not willing to be kind to Amitabh and Bandhe Haath also flopped miserably.

But Amitabh has fond memories of working with Mumtaz . The story goes that Amitabh used to travel in a Fiat and Mumtaz , the leading female star traveled in a Mercedes.

Mumtaz had heard about Amitabh's desire to drive a Mercedes. It was pack up time one evening .

And Mumtaz drove away in Amitabh's Fiet and left her Mercedes with her driver to give Amitabh a chance to fulfill his wish of knowing how it felt to be sitting in and driving a Mercedes.

Then came Zanjeer and Amitabh was flying in the sky of success and Mumtaz was Mrs Mumtaz Mayur Madhvani in Uganda .
