And if it is true love it lasts for years in spite of all the odds , obstacles , problems and pitfalls it faces along the way and all through the years .

I have known of many love stories , but not all of them have ended well , but I know of one love story that keeps my faith in love alive.

Jaggu Dada ( Jackie Shroff ) lived in a small chawl in the Teen Batti area ( Walkeshwar) in South Mumbai , an area which had two sides to it, there were the very rich and there was the Raj Bhavan , the residence of the Governor of Maharatshtra topping the rich side and the chawls on the other .

This part of Teen Batti was known for all its daily gang flights and other sqabbles and it was considered a place to be highly notorious and on the emergency list of not only the nearby police stations , but in all the police stations of Bombay .

Hemant Shroff and Jaikishan Shroff were two young men who were feared by most people and parents did not allow their daughters to move out of the house after sunset .

Hemant the elder of the two brothers was found dead under mysterious circumstances and Jackie who was left alone , decided to give up on his unruly side of life .

Jackie was in love with Ayesha , a beautiful model who lived in the same area , but was a part of a middle class family and was brought up by her mother who was a teacher and social worker . Ayesha loved Jackie (who she called Jaggu) in spite of her knowing all about him .

The reformed Jackie started looking for a job . He wanted to be a chef in one of the leading hotels or a purser , but he ended up working in a traveling agency called Tradewings .

It was while he was working at this agency that he got the assignment to be a model for Charminar cigarettes, an ad campaign which was noticed by Dev Anand who was making "Swami Dada" .

Dev found Jackei and cast him in a bit role which was noticed by Subhash' Ghai and after just one audition , Ghai cast Jackie as the hero in his film.

"Hero", with a failed actress Meenakshi Sheshadri as his heroine . ,"Hero " was a super hit and Jackie was a star in demand .

Jackie now had the confidence to propose to Ayesha and she was too overjoyed to say yes or no but it was a big yes to Jackei from her side . And the love story of Teen Batti ended in a marriage that was simple, but made headlines when it was anounced that it was a marriage of two true minds and hearts. They were officially married on June 5, 1984 .

Jackie with his parents ( a Gujarati father and a woman of Russian origin ) and his bride Ayesha moved into s posh apartment in s building called Le Papillon near the famous Mount Mary Church in Bandra. It was the beginning of a new life of understanding , love and bliss.

Jackie was as busy as ever and was shooting two and three shifts in a day . He could still find time for Ayesha.

They had a son who Jackie first named Jai Hemant, after his late brother , but the little boy was so smart and active that he could hold the steering of his father's best and most expensive cars when he was only two years old and could drive any car by the time he was ten .

That was the time when Jackei decided to call his son Tiger . Jackie and Ayesha then had a daughter who they named Krishna and it was a cosy little happy family very much in love with one another .

And that is how life has been for the Shroff family . Tiger Shroff is a huge star today and if all goes well , Tiger may marry the love of his life , Disha Pattani as soon as the pandemic is over.

And the best thing is that the one time lovers , Jackie and Ayesha have given the couple their blessings and the Shroff family has already accepted Disha as a part of their family.

If I remember right , Jackie and Aayesha faced only one major problem between them and that was when Ayesha got into the tricky field of production and was said to have lost a lot of money .

Thirty four years is a very long and to still be in love , especially in a world where love is slowly turning into a professional or a business proposition.

Jackie and Ayesha celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on June 5 and it was a close knit celebration with just the original lovers and the new lovers present and looking as if they were celebrating in some unknown place ( or was it heaven on earth ? ).

And what was very heartening to see was the smiles on the faces of all the
Shroff's .

This perhaps is what happens when true love succdeds to be a shining example for future lovers like Tiger and Disha and all the other lovers who claim to be great lovers now .

And the best gift the couple received on their anniversary was that Jackie who has never claimed to be a great actor , is still a busy actor after so many years and Ayesha is still the strong support for her lover and a source of inspiration for their children .
