One of Indian television's most beloved and longest-running comedy shows, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has completed 17 glorious years and over 4,460 episodes. On Monday, July 28, the team came together to celebrate this monumental success.
An Iconic Journey
Premiering on July 28, 2008, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah remains a favorite on Sony SAB to this day. Produced under the 'Neela Film Productions' banner by Asit Kumarr Modi, the show has become more than just a serial — it's an emotional connection and a cultural phenomenon.
The 17-Year Celebration
To mark the milestone, a grand event and press conference were held on Monday, July 28, 2025. Present at the event were the show’s creator Asit Kumarr Modi, Sony SAB's Business Head Ajay Bhalwankar, and the entire star cast including Dilip Joshi (Jethalal), Amit Bhatt (Champaklal), Shyam Pathak (Popatlal), Mandar Chandwadkar (Bhide), Sonalika Joshi (Madhavi), Tanuj Mahashabde (Mr. Iyer), Munmun Dutta (Babita), and other actors and crew members.
A special highlight was the appearance of Dilip Joshi and Amit Bhatt with their real-life fathers — a first in front of the cameras. The team celebrated with cake, cherished memories, and heartfelt media interactions.
Asit Kumarr Modi (Producer)
"Seventeen years ago, we dreamt of creating a show that would reflect India’s soul and bring families together. Today, Taarak Mehta is not just a show — it’s an emotion. Gokuldham Society has become a part of Indian life. I am grateful to our actors, crew, writers, Sony SAB, and especially our viewers who embraced this vision and turned it into a reality."
Dilip Joshi (Jethalal)
"If I hadn’t been cast as Jethalal, I don’t know where I would be today. I’ve received immense love and respect because of this role. For us, this is not just a job — it's a blessing. I especially miss working with Disha Vakani (Daya). From 2008 to 2017, we created unforgettable moments together. We both came from theatre, which made our on-screen chemistry naturally strong."
Mayur Vakani (Sundarlal)
"I’m very thankful to Asit Bhai, Dilip sir, and the entire team. I’ve been performing with my sister (Disha Vakani) since childhood in theatre, and this journey became a blessing. Even though she isn’t part of the show now, I continue performing here. Not every actor gets such a family-like experience. I deeply miss her and cherish the memories."
Munmun Dutta (Babita)
"So much has happened in 17 years that it’s hard to pick one memorable moment. But I hope we soon celebrate Durga Puja on the show — whether I celebrate here or in Kolkata, it’ll be special. We’ve seen ups and downs, but the beautiful memories with this show stay forever. This 17-year journey has been truly special."
Ajay Bhalwankar (Sony SAB Business Head):
"We at Sony SAB are proud to celebrate 17 years of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The show has stood the test of time and brought smiles to millions across India. Its unique blend of humor, values, and simplicity is what makes it special. While other shows rely on drama, Taarak Mehta wins hearts with hope, unity, and laughter."
Tanuj Mahashabde (Mr. Iyer)
Reflecting on his first meeting with producer Asit Kumarr Modi, Tanuj recalled being told, “I’m giving you what your destiny didn’t.” He added, “This character has made me visible to so many people — but it also brings a lot of attention and expectations."
Shyam Pathak (Popatlal)
The role of Popatlal made Shyam Pathak a household name. His comical portrayal of a forever-single, idealistic journalist is fan-favorite. He shared with a smile, "Asit Bhaiya has made me feel like a bachelor every day for the past 17 years!"
Mandar Chandwadkar (Bhide)
"Every society has a Jethalal that the secretary has to chase down for maintenance! Being a secretary is like selfless service — only those who’ve done it truly understand the pain," he quipped.
Sonalika Joshi (Madhavi)
"People often ask me where they can get Madhavi’s pickle! Just like her pickles, our show gets better with age."
You can watch Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah every Monday to Saturday at 8:30 PM on Sony SAB.
