Aamir Khan Explores Maha Kumbh Exhibition, Praises the Power of Faith

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently made a special appearance at the renowned Kala Ghoda Art Exhibition in Mumbai. At this exclusive event, Aamir Khan showcased his deep interest in art as he closely viewed and appreciated the artworks on display. The exhibition was a photo exhibition based on the theme of the Maha Kumbh Mela and was jointly launched by Aamir Khan and noted writer Shobha De. Dr Rajesh M Parikh and Namas Bhojani were also present at the event. The evening witnessed a unique confluence of art, culture, and spirituality.

Images of the Kumbh Leave Aamir Khan Deeply Moved

The exhibition showcased rare and striking photographs taken during the Kumbh Mela. These included emotionally powerful images of devotees, sadhus, royal baths, and depictions of divinity, all of which connected viewers to India’s rich traditions and deep-rooted faith. During the painting and photo exhibition in Mumbai, Aamir Khan appeared visibly moved by the photographs. He said that being there made him extremely happy and that the artworks touched him deeply.

Expresses Desire to Visit the Kumbh Mela

When asked whether he would like to attend a massive religious and cultural gathering like the Kumbh Mela, Aamir Khan responded with a smile, saying, “Yes, I would love to. I would really love to.”

He added that the photographs left him overwhelmed and thanked the organisers for presenting such a profound experience through art. He later went on to explore the entire exhibition in detail.

Shobha De Shares Her Kumbh Experience

During the event, Shobha De recalled her experience at the Kumbh Mela many years ago and shared an inspiring anecdote. She spoke about meeting a Naga sadhu who had once worked in the field of nuclear physics but later renounced worldly life to follow his faith and dharma.

Shobha De said, “I was deeply struck by his wisdom and humility. Whenever I face major problems in life, I think of that man who gave up everything to follow his dharma.”
She also mentioned that she has attended one major and two mini Kumbh Melas so far, and that each experience has enriched her spiritually.

Dr Rajesh M Parikh and Namas Bhojani on the Making of the Book

Dr Rajesh M Parikh and Namas Bhojani spent 30 days at the Maha Kumbh Mela to capture the historic spiritual event on camera. During this period, they clicked nearly 1,000 photographs, from which about 500 images were shortlisted and finally selected for the book.

Speaking about Bhojani, Dr Parikh said, “He becomes almost meditative while taking photographs.” He added that the soft-spoken Bhojani’s work has previously been published in prestigious international publications such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. Dr Parikh also shared that Bhojani spent his early life at an ashram in Pondicherry, which is clearly reflected in the sensitivity of his photography.

A Creative Partnership Rooted in Friendship

Namas Bhojani said, “This book was possible because of Rajesh’s hard work. He handled all the planning, permissions and coordination. He has always been extremely generous and gracious.”

Namas also revealed that he first met Dr Rajesh M Parikh nearly 40 years ago, when he was a young photographer working for Bombay Magazine, a publication owned by the India Today Group.

Although Dr Parikh now lives in Mumbai and Namas Bhojani resides in Bengaluru, the two friends captured the Maha Kumbh from their individual perspectives. The photographs were later assembled in the book under different subheads such as Sadhus, Pilgrims, Faces, Hands, and River, powerfully portraying the spiritual essence, human emotions and visual diversity of the Maha Kumbh Mela.
