Everyone will remember the dialogue 'Taarikh pe Tarikh'. Sunny Deol's roaring voice in the courtroom in the film Damini is still echoing when we hear this dialogue. Actors who fought for justice in films were mum in sessions of Lok Sabha as MPs. Shatrughan Sinha fondly known as Shotgun and Sunny Deol, was a member of the 17th Lok Sabha.
Actor-politician MP ‘Khamosh’
Let us tell you that apart from this actor-politician, seven more MPs remained silent in this Lok Sabha session. Sunny Deol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a first-time MP representing Gurdaspur, had submitted some written material during these five years. But Shatrughan Sinha, who is from Trinamool Congress (TMC), did not contribute through any oral or written communication.
The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha began on 17 June 2019 after the general elections in May 2019 and was adjourned on 9 February 2024.
Members who kept mum throughout the session
Let us tell you that when Om Birla became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, he tried to ensure that every MP spoke at least once in the House, if only to make zero-hour intervention, but this also had no impact on some members.
The MPs who did not become part of any proceedings are Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi (Bijapur SC, Karnataka), currently jailed Atul Kumar Singh (Ghosi, UP), Dibyendu Adhikari (Tamluk, West Bengal), B.N. Bachegowda (Chikkaballapur, Karnataka), Pradhan Barua (Lakhimpur, Assam), Sunny Deol (Gurdaspur, Punjab), Ananth Kumar Hegde (Uttar Kannada, Karnataka), V Srinivas Prasad (Chamarajanagar SC, Karnataka), and Shatrughan Sinha (Asansol, West Bengal).
The report said six of the nine MPs made written contributions, but Sinha, Singh, and Chandappa had no participation, whether written or oral.
