On Mrs.:Talking about her award-winning role in Mrs., Sanya expressed how after the film's release, she received numerous messages from women across the country who found a deep connection with her character, Richa. She said, "It makes me happy that so many women relate to Richa's struggles, but at the same time, it’s unfortunate that so many women are still going through the same hardships as Richa. Films are a reflection of society, and sometimes reality is even harsher than fiction. I completely believe in films like Mrs., as they reflect my values. I choose stories that touch me from the inside."
Sanya also reflected on her journey in the film industry, saying, "As a child, I never saw women on screen the way I do now. Women were often just ornamental parts of films. But now things are changing. The industry is creating characters that empower women, and I consider myself very lucky to be an actress in this time."
On Her Connection with Richa's Character
Sanya shared that she felt a deep connection with her character Richa during the shoot. She recalled a particular scene where Richa is referred to as ‘daughter’, but the same people prevent her from doing things that they might allow their own daughters to do. "That’s a bitter truth that I felt very close to," Sanya added.
On Self-Doubt
Sanya, who has earned immense recognition for her stellar performances in Bollywood, admitted that before signing the film Pagglait, she had doubts about her own abilities. She revealed, "Before I signed Pagglait, I was unsure about myself. I called the producer Guneet Monga and said, 'Maybe I shouldn't do this film. I feel like I won’t be able to carry the film on my own.' But Guneet told me, 'I think you should do it.' When the producer and director Umesh Bist had so much faith in me, I told myself, 'Why not?'"
On Her Role in Kathal (2023)
Speaking about her character in Kathal (2023), Sanya said, "Women bring sensitivity to their work, and I try to infuse that quality into my roles. Initially, I wanted to portray Mahima Basor (her character in Kathal) in a more 'masculine' way. But when I wore the uniform and observed the women police officers – with earrings and bindis yet exuding strength – I realized that femininity and power can go hand in hand."
