Mahavatar Narsimha' teaser unveiled: The timeless epic of faith and devotion from Puranas

First of all, how were you chosen for the role of Hiranyakashyap? Was the audition process tough?

Every dubbing or recording follows a process—first comes casting, then a shortlist of candidates. For this role, several people were called in. I gave auditions three to four times in total. In the final round, I understood (3D animation Hiranyakashyap final battle) exactly what the directors were looking for, adjusted my voice accordingly, and got selected. How was the dubbing experience? Did it feel like theatre during your first dubbing?

Yes, this dubbing felt like a theatre mix. The character’s graph was like a crescendo—“I want this, I want that, I want everything!”—and I wanted to deliver it in one breath. Recording in bits and cuts isn’t as enjoyable, so I performed it with full emotion. In some scenes, I shaped my delivery to feel like my teeth were protruding—a detail very few noticed. Did you make any special technical adjustments to your voice to convey Hiranyakashyap’s fearsome, demonic tone?

Yes, during recording, the team pitch-shifted some lines to add depth and bass. But not everywhere—where anger or power was being portrayed, we used it slightly. In scenes where Hiranyakashyap speaks calmly to his son Prahlad or to his guru, my natural voice was kept.

How is voice acting for animated films different from others?

In animated films, you often only get the script and a sketch of the character, not the complete visuals. So, the artist has to imagine how the character would speak and feel. Here, theatre training and acting skills really help. After recording, the editing team matches it with the animation to create the final voice sync.

What was your favourite moment in Mahavatar Narsimha?

When Hiranyakashyap receives his boon, and when Narsimha emerges from the pillar. I was blown away by the quality of the animation in those scenes. I even told the director—“You’ve truly done a phenomenal job; this is a masterpiece.”

What are your thoughts on the Indian animation industry?

We have incredible stories and rich cultural heritage, but many great projects remain on hold for years. Mahavatar Narsimha has already collected ₹180.90 crore and is still running in cinemas. I believe after this film, Indian animation will reach a new milestone.

What advice would you give to those who want to pursue a career in voice acting or dubbing?

I’d say—strengthen your vocabulary and get into the habit of reading aloud. Learn to put the right emphasis on each word and understand your character’s body language. Without any connections, you need to keep visiting production houses and auditioning repeatedly. Keep working on your craft—if you perform a small role well, you’ll definitely get a bigger role next time.

How do you view the success of Mahavatar Narsimha?

For a mythological animated film to have done business of over ₹106 crore—it’s historic! This will be a milestone for the Indian animation and film industry and proves that with a good team and hard work, you can achieve extraordinary results.
