Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar recently appeared on India TV’s popular show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, where he openly spoke about his films and personal life. In this special episode, he not only shared experiences from his film career but also expressed his views frankly on several sensitive issues. In particular, for the first time he broke his silence on the controversy surrounding his recently released film ‘Jolly LLB 3’ and appealed to not raise controversies without watching the entire film. In addition, during this interview he also addressed allegations against him and made several revelations about his personal life. Let’s find out what he said…
Akshay Kumar Opens Up on Aap Ki Adalat: Jolly LLB 3, Personal Life, and Controversies
Wanted to Join the Army
On the show, Akshay revealed his childhood dream of joining the Indian Army. However, he couldn’t fulfill it because he was weak in academics. He shared that he tried to fulfill this wish by doing films based on the Air Force and Army, such as Airlift, Sky Force and Sarphira. (Akshay Kumar Aap Ki Adalat interview 2025)
Worked as a Waiter
Talking about his early struggles, Akshay said he even worked as a waiter. He explained how he had to do odd jobs – sometimes waiting tables, sometimes visiting studios, and even moving to Canada for work. But, he added, the success of his last two films turned him into a superstar. (Akshay Kumar Jolly LLB 3 controversy)
When 14 Films Flopped
Rajat Sharma asked him: “There was a time when one after another, many of your films flopped – around 10–12 films. Did you feel stressed then? Were you worried?”
Akshay responded jokingly, “Why talk about that? Why don’t you tell people that there was also a time when 14 of my films were hits? This is a courtroom, so there has to be a case against me – so of course, focus will only be on the negative things! It has happened more than once – 8 or 9 films didn’t work, sometimes 10 films didn’t work continuously. Ups and downs are normal. Stress? No, I didn’t feel stressed. Yes, there was a time when I thought maybe I am not suited for this industry. Around 14–15 of my films didn’t work, and I thought of moving to Canada, where my friend asked me to join his cargo business. I was about to settle there after finishing my pending two films. But those films got released and turned out to be hits.” (Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar personal life revelations)
On Being Called ‘Money-Minded’
During the interview, Akshay responded to allegations of being money-minded. He said: “If I have earned money, I haven’t looted anyone. I’ve worked hard for it. For the past 8 years, I have been the highest tax-paying celebrity. Is that proof of being money-minded? Money is an important part of life – one has to be practical. I earn money, I pay taxes, and with that money I also do a lot of service. That’s my duty. If someone pays you to cut ribbons, what’s the problem? As long as you’re not stealing or looting, as long as you’re working hard, there’s no issue.”
He also revealed that years ago, when a producer was struggling financially, he used his own money to complete a film.
On Jolly LLB 3 Controversy
When asked about allegedly mocking the attire of lawyers and judges in Jolly LLB 3, Akshay said: “That’s not true. I respect the judiciary a lot. But the film shows certain things which we’ve seen happen in lower courts. These are small things that our writer-director Subhash Kapoor has depicted.” (Akshay Kumar addresses allegations on TV)
On the controversial dialogue – “Kabira, in this world the happiest are lawyers – if they win, they get fat fees, if they lose, there’s an appeal” – Akshay responded:
“I appeal to the lawyers not to stop the film. At the end of the day, it’s just a movie. The real issue of the film is about farmers. Please watch the whole film before judging. Even in Part 1 and Part 2, similar issues were raised but were later withdrawn.”
On Asking PM Modi About Mangoes
Rajat Sharma reminded Akshay about asking Prime Minister Modi why he eats mangoes. Akshay explained:
“Yes, I asked that. I went as a common man. I wasn’t interested in political questions or policies. I just wanted to know what ordinary people would like to ask. I noticed he wore his watch upside down, so I asked about that. I asked about his salary, if he gives it to his mother. So, as a normal person, I also asked – do you eat mangoes? What’s wrong in that?” (Akshay Kumar on film controversies and career)
The Garlic Prank on Sara Ali Khan
Talking about Akshay’s mischievous side, Rajat Sharma mentioned Sara Ali Khan’s story that Akshay once fed her garlic calling it ‘prasad’. Akshay laughed and said:
“Could be true. Joking is good. It keeps you fit and young. Laughter is the best medicine – but the kind of joke that doesn’t hurt anyone. Garlic is good for health, and later she had to do a scene with me anyway – so if there was bad breath, I was the one to face it!”
On Heroines Complaining About Early Morning Shoots
On the allegation that heroines don’t like working with him because they have to wake up at 5 am, Akshay said: “That’s wrong. It’s the opposite – they love working with me. Ask anyone. Kareena even told Saif during Good Newwz that she loved it because the first shot was at 8 am and pack-up by 11.30 or 12.30. She could then go home and spend time with her kids. What could be better?”
On Working With Newcomers
Asked why he works with new heroines instead of established ones, Akshay said: “I work with new directors too. I’m very proud that I’ve given opportunities to 26 new directors. Why should I only work with established ones? New talent should get a chance.”
Favorite Heroine
When asked about his favorite heroine, Akshay replied: “I’ve worked with almost all heroines, but my favorite is Katrina.”
The Secret of “Wearing Glasses”
Rajat asked about the rumor that when his wife talks too much, Akshay has a secret code word to silence her. He laughed and said: “Yes, it’s ‘Put on your glasses.’ Twinkle once bluntly called a film ‘nonsense’ at a trial, which embarrassed me. So we decided this code word – whenever she talks too much, I just say ‘Twinkle, put on your glasses.’”
On Twinkle’s Film Career and Marriage Story
Akshay shared that Twinkle herself admits 11 of her 12 films flopped. She wanted to be a writer or chartered accountant but ended up in films due to circumstances.
He also revealed: “When she was shooting Mela with Aamir Khan, I proposed marriage. She said if Mela flops, she would marry me. Luckily for me (sorry Aamir), the film didn’t work, and I got married to her.”
Their wedding was private, held at a friend’s terrace with no industry guests. Aamir Khan was shocked when Twinkle told him about it.
A fan even jokingly asked Akshay if he had stolen the Prime Minister’s watch, to which he replied: “You want me to be thrown out of the country?” – leaving the audience in splits.
Work Front
Talking about his upcoming projects, Akshay said that this year he has already released four films – Sky Force, Kesari Chapter 2, Housefull 5 and Jolly LLB 3. His next releases include Bhoot Bangla, Welcome to the Jungle and Priyadarshan’s Hawan, in which he stars alongside Saif Ali Khan.
