Ali Fazal says – Life has taken a full circle, a beautiful journey from Joy Lobo in 3 Idiots to the lead musician in Metro…in Dino.

One of the most multi-talented actors of Indian cinema, Ali Fazal, will be seen once again in the role of a musician in his upcoming film Metro…in Dino, directed by Anurag Basu. The film is a sequel to Life in a Metro and is set to release in cinemas on July 4.

Ali Fazal Returns as Musician After 3 Idiots

Ali started his career in 2009 with a small but memorable role of Joy Lobo in 3 Idiots—where he was seen as a guitar-playing engineering student. Now, once again, after so many years, he is playing the role of a musician—this time as the lead character ‘Aakash’.

Recalling this beautiful journey, Ali Fazal said, “It feels like life has really come full circle. I started my film journey with a small role—Joy Lobo, a boy chasing his dreams, with a guitar. That role not only gave me my first break but also awakened the artist in me. Now, after so many years, becoming a musician once again, that too in Anurag Basu sir's film, feels like a poem completing itself.”

He adds, “Over the years, I have played a lot of different roles—from period dramas to international films. But picking up the guitar on screen again was a very personal and emotional experience for me. Working with Anurag Basu sir was a dream, and sharing the screen with Fatima Sana Shaikh was equally special. It is amazing to see how life takes its own path and takes us back to where we started. I want the audience to feel this film, and for me, it is a reminder that no matter where life takes us, the music never stops.”

Metro…In Dino has a stellar ensemble cast and is a heartfelt take on today’s urban life and relationships, in Anurag Basu’s signature style.

From a small role in 3 Idiots, Ali Fazal has made his mark in Indian and international cinema today. This film is another beautiful milestone in his acting journey.
