Actor Ali Fazal is stepping into a brand new role and this time it is not in front of the camera. He is presenting a play for the very first time called 'Mahanagar Jugnu' which is written and directed by the well known playwright Amitosh Nagpal.

This play is actually a huge part of a special fringe festival named 'Le’ Chakallas'. The whole idea behind this festival is to celebrate bold art and fearless voices that think outside the box. Ravi Srivastava produced this event under Artisan Cotery and it is being presented by Mandali Talkies x Artisan Cotery.

The goal is to break the wall between the performer and the audience during this week long cultural experience.

Le’ Chakallas: A Rebel Playground for Art & Voices

'Le’ Chakallas' grew out of a sense of rebellion and curiosity and it turns the whole venue into a playground for creativity. There is a lot going on there like theatre and poetry and storytelling and even rap battles or beatboxing sessions. You can find music gigs and workshops and food stalls or even an artisan market tucked into the corners. It is a place where people just come together to collaborate and talk.

The festival is happening in Mumbai from 25 February to 1 March and it is the first of its kind in the city.  It has a packed schedule with book launches and Dastangoi and a performance called "Jo Dooba So Paar" and even a stand up act by Varun Grover.

But the heart of the whole event is definitely 'Mahanagar Jugnu' because it is such an emotional story that captures the pulse and the poetry of city life.

Time for Indian cinema to explode onto global stage: Ali Fazal

Talking about why he joined in Ali Fazal said "Theatre has always been my first love. It is where I learned to listen and understand and live a character. Becoming a presenter for 'Mahanagar Jugnu' feels like a full circle for me. Amitosh has written a story that is very personal but connects with everyone. The rebellious and community spirit of 'Le’ Chakallas' is the perfect stage for this story. I am happy to support voices that make you think and touch the audience deeply in a way only live performance can."

At the end of the day 'Le’ Chakallas' is more than just a festival because it is designed to be an experience that you feel rather than just watch.
