Best known for delivering some of Bollywood’s most iconic entertainers like Welcome, Singh Is Kinng, No Entry, and the blockbuster horror-comedies Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3, celebrated filmmaker Anees Bazmee expands his horizon in Marathi cinema with his debut presentation — Jarann. Featuring National Award-winning actor Amruta Subhash in a powerful lead role, the film is set to hit theatres on June 5, 2025. The word Jarann means Black Magic in Marathi.
At the trailer launch, Anees Bazmee shared,
“This subject is deeply rooted in our society. Personally, I don’t believe in ghosts—but if you asked me to go to a deserted mansion at 2 a.m., I won’t go. That’s because I’ve witnessed a lot over time. Some people do practice black magic, and many hold strange, deep-seated beliefs. This kind of superstition has existed in our society for generations, and it’s not something that can be erased overnight. No matter how modern or rational you consider yourself, or how firmly you believe that nothing really happens, fear can still creep in. I’ve experienced it myself during the shooting of my films Last Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3.”
Amruta Subhash shares, “During moments when I’ve felt low, Anees sir’s films have given me immense support and comfort. Many white magic also happened during this film and Anees sir presenting it is one of those magical thing. In fact, it took me two days to even believe that sir is presenting our film. It feels like a huge dream come true. After so many years, if I had to do something in Marathi, it had to be this. I’m deeply grateful to have been chosen for this role."
The trailer introduces viewers to an intense, atmospheric world where psychological trauma and deep-rooted superstitions collide. Amruta Subhash plays a married woman whose ordinary life takes a terrifying turn as eerie, unexplainable incidents begin to plague her surroundings.
Her character is layered with emotional vulnerability and quiet strength, portraying the struggle of a woman torn between internalized fear and societal pressure. The trailer captures her slow unraveling — a descent into fear where reality begins to blur, and the threat may lie not just outside but within. On the other hand, Anita Date makes a striking appearance in a chilling ritualistic form — dressed in a red saree, with disheveled hair and vermillion on her forehead, her gaze intense and haunting.
Presented by Anees Bazmee Productions in collaboration with A & N Cinemas LLP and A3 Events & Media Services, and co-produced by Manann Dania Films, Jarann marks a thrilling foray into a genre rarely explored in Marathi cinema — a psychological horror drama deeply rooted in socio-cultural beliefs.
Directed by Rushikesh Gupte and produced by Amol Bhagat and Nitin Bhalchandra Kulkarni, and co-produced by Manann Dania, Jarann stars powerhouses of talent Amruta Subhash and Anita Date, along with Kishor Kadam, Jyoti Malashe, Vikram Gaikwad, Rajan Bhise, Avani Joshi, and Seema Deshmukh in pivotal roles.
