Anil Kapoor to Return as Shivaji Rao in Nayak 2

Bollywood’s “evergreen” actor Anil Kapoor has delivered many memorable performances throughout his career, but one of his most iconic films remains Nayak. Released in 2001, the film struck a deep chord with audiences, and over the years, it went on to achieve cult status. Now, fans have a reason to celebrate as the sequel to the film is officially in the works, with Anil Kapoor set to reprise his role as Shivaji Rao.

Nayak 2 Officially Confirmed

Nayak was directed by renowned Tamil filmmaker Shankar and was the official Hindi remake of his 1999 Tamil blockbuster Mudhalvan. The film featured a strong ensemble cast including Rani Mukerji, Paresh Rawal, Amrish Puri, Johnny Lever, and Saurabh Shukla. While the movie performed moderately at the box office upon release, it gained immense popularity over time and became a legacy project.

Producer Deepak Mukut, best known for backing the hit romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam, has now confirmed Nayak 2. Mukut, who owns the copyrights to the film, revealed that he will be co-producing the sequel along with Anil Kapoor, who will also play the lead role.

In a recent interview, Deepak Mukut stated, “Anil Kapoor and I are making this film together. It’s a bit early to share more details as several discussions are still ongoing. But yes, the sequel is happening, and we are jointly producing it.”

Update on Script and Shooting

Sharing further details, Mukut confirmed that Nayak 2 is currently in the scripting stage. Once the script is finalized, the film will move into production. He also assured that an official announcement will be made soon.

Calling it a legacy project, he said, “It has been almost 25 years. Every film has its own destiny, and when the time is right, it happens. We felt that now is the right moment to bring this story back. There is a strong mutual understanding, and we are working on it together.”

Anil Kapoor’s Upcoming Projects

On the work front, Anil Kapoor will soon be seen in Yash Raj Films’ spy-universe project Alpha. He is also part of Subedar, which is scheduled for release on Amazon Prime Video.
