The prestigious award will recognize 10 filmmakers and other professionals who have worked for years understanding animal sentiments and advocating for their welfare. Speaking to journalists, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi said, “After conducting the CineKind Award on December 20 in Kolkata, it will be made an annual event on October 4, World Animal Day.” She added, “It was my 20‑year‑old dream, which has now come true.” Mrs. Maneka Gandhi further stated, “We have not been able to create a world where, along with humans, the rights of animals are also understood.” Addressing a question on the increasing dog population, she said, “Driving them from one place to another is not a solution; the solution is ABC, i.e., dog sterilization.”
