On Saturday, 17 January, under the Haazri Programme 2026, a grand tribute concert was held at Jio World Garden, BKC, Mumbai, in honour of the legendary music maestro and Padma Vibhushan awardee Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. The special concert marked his fifth death anniversary and beautifully brought together music, memories and deep respect for the great guru.
The highlight of the evening was that, for the first time, Ustad Sahib’s renowned disciples and India’s celebrated singers A.R. Rahman, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan shared the same stage together. However, they were not present as star performers, but as devoted students paying haazri to their revered teacher.

A Soulful Musical Tribute
The evening began with A.R. Rahman, who set a spiritual tone with soulful Sufi renditions. He performed Kun Faya Kun, Khwaja Mere Khwaja and Arziyan, immersing the audience in devotion and emotion. His performance left the entire venue deeply moved.
Following this, Shaan took over the stage and entertained the audience with popular tracks like Main Hoon Don, Chaand Sifarish and Om Shanti Om. He also paid a special tribute to his guru by singing Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s famous ghazal Chale Aao, which received warm applause.

Sonu Nigam brought the evening to an emotional high with songs such as Pardesia, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin and Sandese Aate Hain, leaving the audience spellbound.
Meanwhile, Hariharan mesmerised everyone with timeless classics like Tu Hi Re, Roja, Baahon Ke Darmiyaan and Yaadein, adding depth and nostalgia to the tribute.

Late actor Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan was also present at the tribute concert, paying his respects.
Apart from them, several other celebrities including Paras Chhabra, Prachi Shah, Shweta Tripathi and Vishal Jethwa were also seen at the event.
About Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan
Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan was a legendary Hindustani classical vocalist and a revered music guru, associated with the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. He was born on 3 March 1931 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, and was honoured with the title of ‘Junior Tansen’.
For his immense contribution to Indian music, he received prestigious awards such as the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He trained and mentored several legendary artists from both classical and film music, including Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, A.R. Rahman, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan and Shaan.
