The wedding of renowned filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker’s son, Konark, and the daughter of the famous builder family, Kanakia Builders, Niyati Kanakia, has been the talk of the entire film industry. Videos from the wedding celebrations are being widely shared on social media. The festivities began on February 28, 2025, with a lively sangeet ceremony, and one particular moment from the event stole all the attention—Ashutosh, known for his shy nature, was seen dancing with pure joy!
Ashutosh Dances to 'Mitwa' at Son’s Wedding Celebration
Anyone who witnessed Ashutosh’s expressions could easily tell how happy he was at his son's wedding. During the sangeet ceremony, Ashutosh couldn’t hold back his excitement and broke into dance to the tune of his own film’s iconic song, “Mitwa” from Lagaan. Released in 2001, this song, featuring Aamir Khan, was a massive hit and became an anthem. The song, "Mitwa, Sun Mitwa, Tujhko Kya Dar Hai Re?" earned Udit Narayan a Filmfare Award for Best Singer, and Aamir Khan also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Lagaan. The film went on to win the National Award for Best Film in 2002.
When Ashutosh danced to this iconic number, the entire venue lit up. The groom, Konark, and his friends couldn’t resist joining him on the stage. Father and son shared an unforgettable moment, embracing each other and dancing with pure joy, which added a whole new level of energy to the celebration.
Ashutosh Gowariker’s Son’s Wedding Marks 25 Years of Lagaan
Ashutosh Gowariker has gifted us some of the finest cinema. Coincidentally, Konark and Niyati’s wedding marked the 25th anniversary of Lagaan’s release. Aamir Khan has already begun celebrating the silver jubilee of this milestone film. The reception was graced by an impressive list of stars, including Aamir, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Chunky Pandey, Anupam Kher, and many others, showing just how deeply Ashutosh is respected in the film industry.
Ashutosh Gowariker’s Cinematic Legacy: From Lagaan to Jodhaa Akbar
Ashutosh’s films are masterpieces in their own right. In Lagaan, he beautifully intertwined the passion for the country with the sport of cricket, turning it into a metaphor for the freedom struggle. The fervor displayed in the film is still visible during India-Pakistan cricket matches today. Similarly, in Jodhaa Akbar (starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai), he redefined the image of Emperor Akbar, steering it far from the portrayal by Prithviraj Kapoor in Mughal-e-Azam. His portrayal of Mughal history is detailed and deeply emotional, a narrative not found anywhere else, and many agree that Aishwarya has never looked more stunning on screen than in this film.
In Swades, he depicted the journey of an Indian man (Shah Rukh Khan), who leaves his job at NASA to return to his village and serve his people. The song "Ram Hamare Man Mein Hai" still captures the essence of patriotism and connection to one’s roots. From Mohenjo Daro to his other films, Ashutosh has created a unique cinematic flavor in each of his projects.
At Konark and Niyati’s sangeet ceremony, Ashutosh didn’t just dance to songs from his own films; his dance was a reflection of the love and pride he felt as a father. He was completely immersed in the joy of the moment, and watching him enjoy himself brought immense joy to the people around him. These days, fans are even recreating his dance to "Mitwa" on social media, sharing their own take on this heartwarming moment.
