Maverick rebel writer-filmmaker Anurag Kashyap returns to his favourite-homeground-- rural desi-backdrop in the UP heartlands with 'Nishaanchi' ( sharp-shot ?) action-thriller masala crime drama but also with a musical, romantic, humor, emotional tadka  Although Nishaanchi, appears to have a North Indian rustic flavor tone similar to his cult classic Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Anurag refutes the surmise by asserting that his latest 'Nishaanchi' has refreshingly different content and story-line. Its an engaging period film with a time-span of 30 years ( from 1986 to 2016). Cashing in on a title-franchise after a gap of 13 years, is not what excites me, so its certainly not  G-o-Wassepur Part 3," clarifies the outspoken, articulate, crazy film-buff Anurag. Besides being a brilliant award-winning writer-editor and film-maker and occasional spontaneous star-actor  Anurag has also been a 'star-maker' who has given big-breaks to a large number of relatively new actors ( like for instance star-heroine Mahie Gill) in almost all his movies.This time Nishaanchi marks the screen debut of Aaishvary Thackeray, the son of eminent senior producer Smita Thackeray and grandson of revered 'late' Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. Did the powerful Thackeray 'lineage' matter to him? "Honestly, initially, I had no clue he was a Maharashtrian or that he belonged to the Thackeray parivaar. I felt that Aaish had that star-potential in him because he had done a Manoj Bajpayee monologue from movie Shool.  When I met him, he told me who he was. Besides being an actor he was passionate about composing and writing music and was simultaneously doing acting workshops. I gave him the script, and he seemed to be super-excited, When I cast him in 'Nishaanchi', I had not disclosed to him that it was for a contrast 'double role' two-brothers characters of Dablu and Bablu. In fact he prepared intensively and had become a  'Kanpuriya' for the role. Observing his passion and involvement I decided to cast Aaishvary in both the contrasting double roles. The essential condition was that he would not act in any other film or OTT  project, until our movie released," informs the 'Dev D' filmmaker..
