The much-anticipated film "Bandaa Singh Chaudhary," featuring Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi and actress Mehreen Pirzada, known for her roles in "Secret Superstar" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan," has had its trailer released today. The trailer depicts a story of communal tension intertwined with themes of love and loyalty. A press conference was held where the film’s cast addressed media questions.
-
How did you get involved with this film?
Arbaaz: This film is significant for everyone here. During my collaboration with Manav on "Patna Shukla," discussions about this project began, and I expressed interest in being involved. Manav mentioned that if the opportunity arose, I should join, and thankfully, I got that chance. This film is truly remarkable. The songs are great, and both the actors and directors have done an excellent job. It tells the story of a man fighting for his rights, and now I can’t wait for everyone to see and enjoy it.
- What do you think of this incredible team and star cast?
Manish: The subject is great, the director is good, but the team is what matters most. When the team is strong, you can accomplish anything, which we did here. We’ve seen everyone’s reactions as well.
- Why "Bandaa Singh Chaudhary," and how closely is it tied to reality?
Abhishek: From 1971 through the late '70s and early '80s, many faced struggles. Bandaa Singh Chaudhary is a fictional character we created. During our research, we met many people who had endured similar experiences. We learned about those who were forcibly removed from their homes and told to leave, which inspired the creation of Bandaa Singh Chaudhary. We previously made a film called "Fullu," which was based on real events.
- Can you tell us more about Bandaa Singh Chaudhary?
Abhishek: Everyone knows about him; I don’t need to say much. My contribution is minor compared to what Mehreen has brought to the screen. Without her, we wouldn’t have achieved what we did.
-
The chemistry between Arshad and Mehreen looks great. Can you tell us what else happened?
Mehreen: I’d like to share about the character I play. She is a Sikh martial artist, and while it looks beautiful, it’s challenging to perform. Training was tough for me at first. The weapon I wielded felt light until I started spinning it; then it became heavy. When it’s in the air, it can weigh 15-20 kilograms. It was tough, but I enjoyed it. I believe my character, Lalli, has a strong mindset. A girl practicing martial arts develops resilience, no matter the circumstances she faces.
Arshad sat me on the bike, but there was barely any space, so I often found myself hanging on. If I had a bag, it was hard to manage. Plus, I had a child with me on the bike, which added to the challenge.
-
What similarities do you share with your character? Did you have to set yourself aside?
Arshad: I think the similarity lies in the fact that Banda Singh is quite ordinary, just like me. I prefer living simply. However, the courage and bravery he displays are traits I lack. As you watch the film, you'll see how exceptional he is. As Arbaaz said, he is just an ordinary person. When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter if you’re tall or short; it’s about the courage within.
-
What motivated you to bring this story to life at this time?
Arbaaz: As filmmakers, we don’t focus solely on whether a story is a thriller, romance, or action. We consider if the film is good and whether it should be made now. We’re also looking for relevance; it’s important that audiences connect with the story. Many period films, even older ones, resonate with people. This is the story of an ordinary man battling challenges, which is still relatable today.
Arshad, you look quite different in this film. We’ve rarely seen you in such an intense role. What do you have to say about your character?
Arshad: I don’t get offered roles like this. I don’t know why that is. I consider myself a good actor.
-
Was Arshad your first choice for this role?
Arbaaz: Yes, Arshad was my first choice. We even worked on an incomplete film together titled "Jeetenge Hum." He gained weight for this character to embody the look of an ordinary man immersed in family life. The way he portrays the role is incredible. When he confronts the opposition with a gun, you can truly see his mental strength. His performance is fantastic.
-
You’re a great choreographer and actor, and now you’re holding a gun in this film. What do you have to say about that?
Arshad: I promise to keep working just like any other actor. We’re all eager to try new things. I enjoyed every moment of this film. The story is compelling, with plenty of interesting characters and situations.
-
What do you think audiences will take away from this film?
Arbaaz: I believe it will be about the characters. When you watch the film, you’ll see everyone delivering remarkable performances. I hope people find inspiration in it.
Regarding the unfortunate incident with Govinda today, what are your thoughts? I’m sure you’re also a fan.
Arshad: It’s unfortunate. Such things shouldn’t happen. We all feel really bad about it.
-
We often see that films like this spark controversy. Is that true?
Arbaaz: We clearly have no idea how a film will be received. This film was made with strong belief and conviction, so we don’t expect to face any controversies.
- What message would you like to convey to the new generation of actors?
Arshad: I often say that acting is like special effects. If you notice the effects, they’re poorly done; similarly, if you see the acting, it’s bad acting. Acting should not be visible, just like special effects shouldn’t be. So when you perform, try to be as natural as possible.
-
What message would you like to share?
Mehreen: My message would be that we should all strive to stand together through adversity and unite different communities.
