Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan about her Bollywood debut in 'Kadak Singh'

Jaya Ahsan is a well-known Bangladeshi actress who started her career with modeling and later moved into films while working in television. Jaya Ahsan is known for her talent and acting skills in Bangladeshi cinema. Jaya is the only Bangladeshi actress to have won three Filmfare Awards and four National Film Awards. Talking about Jaya's films, she has done films like 'Guerrilla' (2011), 'Chorabali' (2012), 'Zero Degree' (2015), 'Debi' (2018), 'Alatchakra' (2021), and 'Beauty Circus'. She has won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress six times for her acting in films. Apart from Bengali films, Jaya has also done films in the Iranian language. Now Jaya is making her Bollywood debut with the film 'Kadak Singh'.

The film was released on 8th December on Zee 5 in which Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjana Sanghi are also seen. Let's tell you what Jaya says about this film and her new experience...

You are making your Bollywood debut with 'Kadak Singh', so what preparation did you do for this film?

Working with Anirudh Roy Chowdhury was on my bucket list because I have not done any Bengali films with him. He chose me for this role and I was very happy with this. For me, working with Pankaj Tripathi became the cherry on the top. This film came to me suddenly, actually, I was waiting to work with Tony Da in a Bengali film, and then I got this Hindi film. There was a lot of challenge in this because this film is in Hindi and I am from Bangladesh and that too from a pure Bengali background. That's why I was a little nervous about this film, but the most challenging thing was that it has been recorded in single sound, if dubbing is done then you get a chance to make a little improvement in it, but in single sound recording it is not so. Does not happen.

How was your experience working with Pankaj Tripathi, and what difficulties did you face in playing your character?

Working with Pankaj ji is a lifetime experience. Pankaj ji is an acting institution in itself. Working with him and sharing the screen is a big thing for me. Initially, I was a little nervous, but when we started shooting the scene, he made me feel comfortable, and after that, it did not seem so difficult.

How much change do you see in your industry and the Bollywood industry?

This place is big. Here everything happens on a big level. The scope of work is more here. I am very new in this field, and I don't think I should talk much about it.

Kadak

Who was the person on the set from whom you learned a lot?

The entire team was very special. All my fellow actors have given their best to their characters. All are very nice people. Where there are good people, work itself becomes good. I have learned a lot and this experience is very special for me.

What kind of bonding did you have with Pankaj ji? When you met him, were you nervous or excited?

He is an extremely good actor and a very nice person, I feel absolutely kinship with him. Now whether I watch it as an audience or as a co-star, he is very good. I was more mesmerized than nervous.

This film has been released on OTT. Before Corona, films used to come on the big screen, and since the time of Corona, OTT has taken its place among the people, so what would you like to say about this change?

If there is a lot of food on the plate, people will eat it at their convenience and their choices. The best thing about OTT is that it does not depend only on celebrities. OTT has given work to good artists and this is the best thing. There is no age limitation in OTT, work is done according to the character, and anyone can be a hero in this. This film is being released on ZEE5, and ZEE5 runs in 140 countries. Working in OTT increases your reach.

You have received many awards for yourself. How do you feel when people love and appreciate your work?

It feels good. I believe that awards and recognition are like bonuses for an artist. It feels best when the audience likes the film.

You went to Goa for IFFI, there you met Shahid Kapoor. How was your experience there?

We went to the opening ceremony of our film ‘Kadak Singh’. I met her and Karan Johar there just casually, nothing special happened.

What are you enjoying the most, doing web series or movies?

I have been doing movies for many years. I have done Bengali as well as Iranian films. This film is my first film on OTT, and also my first Hindi project. This is very special for me.

If you would like to tell me something about your upcoming projects?

There is no one else after this film in Hindi, but many classic and important films are going to come in Bengali. These films will be released in both Bangladesh and Bengal. I had also done an Iranian film which went to IFFI, and four of my films were shown in IFFI.

Would you like to give any message to the fans?

All I want to say is that please watch 'Kadak Singh' and give feedback, how did you like the film and how did you like my character in it?
