It is common knowledge for Sridevi-fans that film-maker Sandeep Malani has been a die-hard passionate Sridevi fan (he calls himself above that, a ‘devotee; of hers). Truly he has been contributing and celebrating her legacy from many years now.
Sandeep has been celebrating her birthday on Aug 13th every year since ages now by have gifted her memorable childhood family photo, by making a collage of all her film posters, by writing a diary on her life and also by making a musical documentary on her film career. In the past Sandeep has also dedicated a film ‘Janleva 555’ to her in which (Hollywood-based) stunning actress Kalpana Pandit has worn identical costumes that Sridevi wore in Nagina, Chaalbaaz, Chandni to name a few. This film was also a take-off on Nagina and Nigahen. His iphone films Yeh CineMaa Hai was also dedicated to the legendary actress in which some sequences and scenes was praised.
And now, his latest Hindi film ‘Rang Bhare Baadal Se’ (the title is a lyrical refrain from the famous duet-song of Sridevi’s film Chandni. Which in fact Sridevi sang in her own voice with co-singer Jolly Mukherjee). Malani has dedicated this to his all-time favorite mega-star actress.
As far as the tribute-poem, Sandeep himself has recited the poem in which there are nostalgic references to her films.
The much-awaited emotional family-film ‘Rang Bhare Baadal Se’ (RBBS) which is only dedicated to Sridevi’s memory, made under the banner of Ashmita and Amisha Films is produced by Rajesh Chowdhury and has besides Sandeep Malani, popular regional star-actress – award winner Ester Noronha playing the lead along with Indian Idol Singer Nihal Tauro and Bigg Boss Kannada contestant Uday Surya. The film also features Ashwin Dcosta, Godwin Sparkle, Rajeev Pillai, Josita Anola, Anitha Dulam, Seema Buthello, Hareram T, Soujanya Hegde, Valerian M, Manjula Pillai, Jigar C, Aurobindo, Clement S, , Thirumalesh, Preeti, Ashmita & Amisha Chowdhury with veteran Kannada star-actress Jayalakshmi and Konkani actress Meena Malani.
Music composed by Veer Samarth, Patson Periera and Rahul Raj, the film has cinematography by Selvam. Santosh Chawla and Silver Malani have co-directed the film and has story screenplay and direction by Sandeep Malani. The film is also been simultaneously made in Kannada as Heegeke Nee Doora Hoguve and would be released in coastal regional languages as Mog Tuzo Kithlo Ashelon (Konkani) and Mokeda Singaari Untudde Vaiyyari (Tulu). The fabulous musical film ‘Rang Bhare Baadal Se’ is ready and expected to be released latest by this ( 2024) year-end. Devotee Sandeep, says he loves all of immortal icon Sridevi’s 300 movies, but Sadma, Chaalbaaz, and Mr. India are among his top-favourites.
