With the fabulous spectacular trailer and awesome songs, family audiences both Pan-India and globally are eagerly anticipating watching the action-packed thriller blockbuster movie ‘Kanguva’ releasing on November 14 What makes ‘Kanguva’ directed by showman Siva and produced by Gnanavel Raja is that it has Southside “OG” (original ) Superstar hero Suriya pitted against 'Lord' Bobby Deol (of mega-hit ‘Animal’ fame) with glamour-girl Disha Patani as the romantic lead ---opposite Suriya. If Suriya is known for his modest, honest friendly, and frank nature, so is Bobby Deol equally modest, frank, and friendly.
Why is Suriya (son of veteran acclaimed veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar) also known as the “OG” superstar? That’s because Suriya has acted in the original superhit Tamil cop-action-thriller movie ‘Singam’ (2010) directed by Hari and produced by the same (Kanguva producer) Gnanavel Raja which was later adapted into Hindi by Rohit Shetty as Singham (2011) with Ajay Devgn. Similarly, Suriya initially acted in the original mega-hit Tamil film Ghajini (2005) which the same innovative director A R Murugadoss ‘remade’ into Hindi with the same title ‘Ghajini’ (2008)
The modest mega-star Suriya said in his media interaction that Aamir Khan should be credited for his ( Suriya’s) national fame journey. From being just a Tamil regional star actor to becoming a star recognized all over the country, National Award winner "It all started with Aamir-Sir speaking to the media about me, informing them that I was the one who starred in the original version of 'Ghajini'. He introduced me to the entire film fraternity and news media all over our country. Sincere thanks to Aamir-Sir for putting my name on the national map," Suriya told the news media at the trailer launch of his upcoming movie "Kanguva".
Similarly, Suriya also credits his nationwide recognition to Ajay Devgn’s "Singham", the Rohit Shetty-directed 2011 cop action movie that was a remake of the Tamil star’s 2010 film of the same title. At the event, when someone called him called Suriya a superstar, but the humble unassuming actor said he “knows only One Superstar—Rajinikanth”.
Billed as a “mighty valiant saga,” the movie ‘Kanguva’ (total budget estimated around Rs 351 crores) features Bobby Deol as the antagonist."It is not easy to stand in front of Bobby-Sir and say, 'I'm standing in front of you.' I need to gather all my courage, strength, and conviction to stand in front of him and challenge him," Suriya said.
Continued Suriya, “ "It's been 27 years. Still, people want to watch me, and filmmakers still want to cast me. If they have a script and think of me, it's because of my previous producers and directors who have kept me relevant all these years." "Hopefully, people will get a new experience with 'Kanguva', just like they have showered their love and wishes on my previous films," he added.
At the trailer launch event, producer K E Gnanavel Raja revealed that the team is already planning a sequel to "Kanguva". He was speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming movie "Kanguva". "The plan for part two is already underway. But if I say more, I might have to reveal something about the story, so that’s a surprise for the audience," said Raja
Backed by UV Creations and Studio Green, "Kanguva" also features actors glamorous dare-bare talented actresses Disha Patani, Jagapathi Babu, and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles. The film will be released in 3D in some 10 different languages including foreign languages
He always wondered when Indian cinema would make movies on par with Hollywood epics like "Braveheart" and "The Lord of the Rings", and South cinema star Suriya says he got an opportunity to do something just like that with his new film "Kanguva".
Praising ‘showman’ director Siva for his vision, the National Award winner Suriya said the upcoming Tamil movie ‘Kanguva’ "mighty valiant saga" which spans generations is on par with Hollywood movies. “It is a "little futuristic even as it flashes back into ancient times " and will be "a never-seen-before" audio-visual experience for audiences of all ages. We have all loved Hollywood films like 'Braveheart', 'Lord of the Rings', 'Game of Thrones' or 'Apocalypto'. We have been mesmerized by them and watched them multiple times. The thought for me and my team was 'When are we going to do such magnificent spectacular films?' "Director Siva came up with this idea of what if we go back a few 100 years... What would happen if our people lived such a life and had a complex situation? Let's that and that's how the whole thing came about," Suriya disclosed
This is Lord Bobby Deol's first release since the December 2023 mega-hit "Animal", which recently earned him a trophy for best actor in a negative role at the recent IIFA Awards. Out here in Tamil ‘Kanguva’ Bobby plays the main antagonist Udhiran. It is important to note that the producer Gnanavel Raja had signed him way back in July 2023, much before ‘Animal had even released
What motivated Bobby to sign a Tamil language film and step out of his ‘comfort zone’ "I've been a big fan of Suriya. It was almost a dream come true to work with him in ‘Kanguva’ as a co-star. Suriya’s super-hit South movies have emotional, impactful content that always remains with you. We both hit it off instantly and bonded like brothers-buddies all thru the 'Kanguva' movie shoot. I used to love the coffee served on the sets and Suriya even got me coffee-beans packets for me, Honestly I did not know much about the producer or director, but I signed ‘Kanguva’ mainly because I wanted to work with the star Suriya who is also such a modest gentleman with strong family values,” revealed Bobby.
Interestingly South-based “OG” star Suriya, also revealed his special emotional attachment to Mumbai city because his in-laws are based here and both his children are also studying in Mumbai. It is relevant to note that Suriya is happily married to charming actress Jyothika who started her acting career in Mumbai with the Hindi movie Doli Sajake Rakhna (1997). Jyothika then shifted to Southside regional films, where she later on met co-actor (husband) Suriya with whom she was paired in some seven films. Recently Jyothika impressed audiences with her performance in Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan starrer supernatural horror Hindi movie Shaitaan (2024).
