If it is made from the heart, it can reach every kind of audience. 

Sharmila Tagore says audiences must back small films

Recently, some small but powerful films released on OTT platforms have proven that a good story can find its place even without heavy publicity. Veteran and intellectual actress Sharmila Tagore has a different concern. She believes that the industry is losing its embrace for small films. Sharmila said that every year we say we need good, innovative films, but when such films are released, audiences don't go to see them. She clearly states that if audiences support small-budget, innovative films, then makers will also feel the courage to make such films. The recent success of some regional films, which gained widespread recognition through word of mouth, is an example of this.

Ali Fazal urges filmmakers to overcome fear for fresh stories

Ali Fazal's point is a little more profound. According to him, filmmakers are becoming afraid of new experiments these days. Ali says that a few years ago, films like Fukrey, Kahaani, and Masaan were released, and audiences embraced them wholeheartedly. The audience still exists, just a more fearful atmosphere. After the pandemic, an unknown fear has settled in the industry, causing people to choose the safe path. Ali believes that if this fear is overcome, new and authentic cinema can return.

Combining these three statements, it's clear that the industry desires change; all it takes is the courage to embrace it. The good news is that some positive signs are already visible before the New Year. Many young directors are making films without big stars, which are receiving acclaim on OTT platforms and at film festivals. Additionally, some major producers have begun to say that content will now be the true hero. 

Another emerging trend is to view theater and OTT as allies rather than competitors. Many films are first released in theaters and then reach audiences on digital platforms, giving a space to all genres of cinema. The new year brings hope. If labels are reduced, fear is reduced, and small cinema is openly embraced, the Hindi film industry can recreate the magic that once characterized it. These statements by the stars are not just complaints, but a hint of a better tomorrow. Now it remains to be seen whether the coming year will keep these things confined to mere talk or whether it will actually bring about some change.
