Boney Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor get emotional while unveiling Sridevi Chowk in presence of Anupam, Shabana , Poonam and Gulshan Grover by Chaitanya Padukone

Eminent veteran producer Boney Kapoor and his younger actress-daughter, Khushi Kapoor, unveiled ‘late’ Sridevi Kapoor ( Memorial) Chowk in Mumbai's Lokhandwala. at the busy traffic junction. They were joined by veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher, Poonam Dhillon, Sanjay Kapoor, and Gulshan Grover and popular local MLA Dr. Bharti  Lavekar ( whose name is also inscribed on the plaque below Sridevi’s name) This unveiling of the bright-illuminated four-images-box visible from all the four sides, was done in the evening, on auspicious shagun Dussehra Day, in full public view.

Producer-actor Boney Kapoor explained to the news- media that this was the same area where his late actress wife Sridevi lived for so many years in the opposite apartment building ‘Green Acres Towers’. Going into an emotional flashback,  Boney also shared that his unassuming wife “Sri” would walk across the same road and pass thru the same (chowk) junction to personally operate her bank locker in a reputed bank branch on the opposite road. 
Recalling his professional association with Sridevi, senior actor Anupam Kher said that she was among the best versatile actresses and dancers in the world. . Anupam also shared that it was his pleasure to work with her as a fabulous co-star in so many hit movies and also to know her as a wonderful human being.

Known for his negative powerful roles, Gulshan Grover said as a newcomer it was his honor that Sridevi was his wonderful talented co-star in the movie ‘Sadma’(1983). "A great spontaneous actress, ‘Sadma was her first Hindi movie and  I was also the Hindi dialogues-coach, for this movie”, disclosed Gulshan Grover...

In a news video from the inauguration, Khushi appeared visibly emotional, as if on the verge of tears. Boney also looked deeply moved as he unveiled the new landmark featuring photos of Sridevi above the Chowk plaque... As a mark of respect, Boney gently touched his late wife’s image. Shabana stood beside Khushi throughout the ceremony.

However,  Sridevi’s elder daughter, brilliant star-actress Janhvi Kapoor, was not present at the event.

It may be recalled that Sridevi tragically passed away in Dubai on February 24, 2018, after “accidentally drowning in a bathtub”  at a hotel while attending a family wedding. In an earlier interview with the news media  Boney Kapoor spoke about her tragic passing, revealing that Sridevi had often followed very strict salt-free diets, which sometimes led to sudden blackouts.

Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and they have two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi. Often referred to as the "first female superstar" in Indian cinema, Sridevi made her debut in 1967 with the Tamil movie Kandhan Karunai when she was just four years old. In her career spanning 50 years, she worked in all the South Indian regional film movies and won many awards... Sridevi is always remembered for her amazing spontaneous screen performances in Hindi movies like ‘Sadma’, Mr. India,  Nagina,  Aakhree Raasta, Chandni’, Judaai, Khuda Gawah and of course, Chaalbaaz’ Among her last memorable films were ‘English Vinglish’ and of course ‘Mom’ in which her title-role had grey-shades... The tall, charismatic charming actress 'Sri' also made a cameo appearance in Shah Rukh Khan's Zero---which was released after her death.

Her husband Boney Kapoor often shares posts about the late actress on social media. On August 13, 2024, he shared a picture of Sridevi on her 60th birth anniversary and wrote, "Happy birthday my Jaan."

Sridevi's daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, are both eminent actresses. Janhvi Kapoor ( of ‘Dhadak’ Gunjan Saxena, Mili, and ‘Ulajh’ fame) was last seen in Devara with Jr NTR,  which is also her first Telugu movie. Khushi Kapoor made her acting debut with Zoya Akhtar's The Archies in 2023.
