If “Chak De! India” coach Kabir Khan brought dreams to life on the silver screen, Amol Muzumdar has lived that dream on the real cricket field. Once unable to don the Indian colors himself, Muzumdar, as a coach, scripted a story straight out of cinema — leading the Indian women’s cricket team to their historic victory at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup.
A Moment Straight Out of a Film — But Real
In the final over, when Harmanpreet Kaur caught Nadine de Klerk, tears welled up in Amol Muzumdar’s eyes in the dugout. It was a scene straight out of a movie — except this time, there was no camera, only real life playing out in front of millions.

When the Disciple Honored Her Guru
Just as Komal hugged Kabir Khan in Chak De! India, moments after India’s victory, captain Harmanpreet Kaur walked up to Amol Muzumdar and touched his feet in front of everyone. That moment instantly brought back memories of the film — when the Indian team embraces Kabir Khan after their win.
“It Was an Emotional Moment,” Says Muzumdar.
When asked about his feelings after leading India to their first-ever World Cup title, Muzumdar said, “After Harman’s catch, I don’t even know what happened. The next five minutes were a blur. I was looking up from the dugout — everyone was hugging, celebrating. It was an emotional moment for all of us.”

Unity Was the Key to Victory
The man behind the scenes credited team unity as the biggest factor behind the triumph.“The last two years with this team have been amazing. Everyone supports each other — no one leaves anyone behind. Working with such talented players is an honor,” he said.
Known for his trademark ‘Khadoos Mumbaikar’ discipline, Muzumdar added that the team reflects the same focus and mental toughness he values deeply.
He recalled telling the team after three consecutive losses, “We haven’t lost — we just haven’t crossed the finish line yet.” That one line became the real ‘Chak De Moment’ of their journey.

A Hero’s Welcome with Rose Petals and Cheers
When Amol Muzumdar returned home to Mumbai after making the women’s team world champions, the scene outside his building looked like a celebration of a national hero. Drums and dhols filled the air with rhythm, rose petals rained from balconies, and chants of victory echoed everywhere.
It felt as if an entire neighborhood was celebrating the return of one of their own. As Muzumdar walked toward his building’s gate, people raised cricket bats in salute. Tears of pride and joy shone in many eyes — especially among women and young girls, whose faces glowed with admiration.

The scene was reminiscent of the Chak De! India moment when Kabir Khan returns home, and a young boy wipes away the word “Traitor” written in black on his wall. Only this time, it wasn’t “Traitor” being erased — it was “Pride” being written — pride in Amol Muzumdar, the man who lifted the nation’s spirit.
Like 1983, This Win Will Inspire a New Generation
After the win, Muzumdar said, “This isn’t just a victory for women’s cricket — it’s a historic turning point for Indian cricket as a whole. The packed stadiums, the millions watching — it reminded me of 1983. Just as that win inspired a generation, this one will give wings to new dreams.”

The Player Who Never Played for India, but Became a True Champion
Amol Muzumdar was one of the finest domestic cricketers of his era. Across 171 first-class matches, he scored 11,167 runs at an average of 48.13, including 30 centuries. He also played a key role in leading Mumbai to a Ranji Trophy title in the 2006–07 season.
Though he never made it to Team India — overshadowed by legends like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman — he has now achieved what every cricketer dreams of: leading India to World Cup glory. With this historic win, Muzumdar joins the elite league of India’s World Cup–winning coaches like Gary Kirsten and Rahul Dravid. Interestingly, in his school days, Muzumdar had once been next in line to bat for Sharadashram Vidyamandir when Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli made their record-breaking 664-run partnership — but never got the chance to step in.
In Chak De! India, Kabir Khan said —“Mujhe states ke naam nahi sunai dete... sirf India ka naam sunai deta hai.” (“I don’t hear the names of states… I only hear the name of India.”) Today, Amol Muzumdar’s team has made that line come true.
The stadium echoed with chants of “Chak De India!” Only this time, it wasn’t a movie — it was history.
The entire ‘Bollyy’ family salutes Coach Amol Muzumdar — the man who played the role of a true guru, guiding his team with wisdom, discipline, and heart. His journey will remain an inspiration for every player.
