How He Got the Opportunity
Gaurav received a call from casting director Mukesh Chhabra’s office for the audition of Dhurandhar. Talking about it, he said, “I was given a very intense scene. I usually do a certain kind of work, so I’m thankful to Mukesh for seeing me as a secret agent because the industry often typecasts actors. I explore everything I can do through my videos. Many actors, like Pran Sahab and Amjad Khan Sahab, broke typecasting. An actor always feels the need to do something different.”

The Beard Changed His Look
For the film, Gaurav was asked to grow a beard. Sharing his experience, he said, “Many times I felt like suggesting a fake beard, but I didn’t. I spent the entire last year with a beard. I couldn’t take up other work and stayed away from people so that no one would click pictures. In the end, growing the beard turned out to be the right decision. When I first saw myself in the mirror, I felt like I had aged. I’ve never had the fear that if I disappear for a few days, something will go wrong. I’ve been in the industry for 25 years. People have forgotten me many times. If I were new, maybe it would have scared me.”

On the Controversy
Addressing the controversy surrounding the film, Gaurav said, “Rehman Daku was known for spreading fear, and what has been shown in the film is accurate. Today’s generation might not know about the Kandahar hijack or the Parliament attack. This film gives people a project—to find out what actually happened. Those who watch it with a biased mindset will call it propaganda. But if you watch it as a film, there’s a lot to learn.”
