Daughter of Bollywood veteran Jeetendra, Ektaa didn’t follow the traditional path expected in a filmi family. In fact, she once admitted, “Before becoming a producer, I wanted to be a journalist. I never felt I had the body or face to be an actor, which seemed like a must. I thought I’d earn around 20,000 a month and eventually get married. Honestly, I didn’t have any direction.” That changed with one pivotal moment.
Ektaa Kapoor Balaji Telefilms Began with a Leap
While working on a script for a project her father was producing, Ektaa heard a writer’s narration, and something clicked. When her father eventually stepped away from the project, she stepped up. “The money was already invested,” she recalls, so she took charge as producer. That instinctive leap of faith led her to launch Dolphin Telefilms, and soon after, Balaji Telefilms, which would become a game-changer in Indian entertainment.
With over 140 TV shows, 45 films, and a legacy of female-driven narratives long before it became the norm, Ektaa redefined what it meant to be a storyteller. She didn’t just conquer television and cinema, she led the digital wave with ALTBalaji, one of India's first homegrown OTT platforms.
Today, she continues to push creative boundaries. From her much-anticipated collaboration with TVF featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia (VVAN) to the reunion of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar in Bhooth Bangla, Ektaa remains at the forefront of content innovation.
