In 2025, many Bollywood filmmakers are focussing in some new dimension to women-centric stories in films and web series. These talented directors present the experiences and voices of women in different aspects like drama, action, sports, and historical biographies. Anant Mahadevan - Phule

Anant Mahadevan - Phule

Anant Mahadevan, who has already made some awesome women-centereIn 2025, many Bollywood filmmakers are focussing in some new dimension to women-centric stories in films and web series.d films like Me Sindhutai Sapkal and Dr. Rukhmabai, this time is bringing the story of social reformer of India, Jyotiba  Savitribai Phule. This biopic stars Prateek Gandhi and Patralekha in the lead roles. The film will show her struggle for women's education and ethnic equality. The deep understanding of the historical themes of Mahadevan will make it an impressive film.

Prosit Roy - Chakda Express

Prosit Roy - Chakda Express

The pair of Priyas Roy and Anushka Sharma, who have previously worked together in the horror film Pari, are now presenting the story of a historic sports heroine in Chakda Express. The film is based on the life of Indian female cricketer Jhulan Goswami and has been produced by clean slate film. The film shows breaking the stereotypes about women's place in cricket and their struggling journey.  

Hitesh Bhatia - Dabba Cartel

Hitesh Bhatia - Dabba Cartel

Director Hitesh Bhatia, who made a heart   warming start with Sharmaji Namkeen, is now working on a new adventurous topic with Netflix's series Dabba Cartel. The story revolves around five women in Thane, Maharashtra, who together makes drug cartel. The series, created by Shibani Dandekar and built by Excel Entertainment, stars Shabana Azmi, Jyothika, Sai Tamhkar and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles. This story sets a unique example of breaking the rules made by society and women empowerment with suspense and a story .

Amrit Raj Gupta - Daldal

Amrit Raj Gupta, who is identified with family stories like Gullak, is now stepping into the world of crime thriller. Bhumi Pednekar is playing the role of DCP Rita Ferrera in the new series of Amazon Prime Video, who struggles with the complexities of the criminal world of Mumbai. This series is an inspirational story of the courage and struggle of the female officer based on Vishal Dhamija's novel Bhendi Bazaar.  

Aarti Kadav - Mrs.

Director Aarti Kadav, who came into lime light with Science-Fiction films Cargo and The Astronaut and Hiz Paut, now is focused on social issues. She is bringing it as a Hindi remake of the 2024 Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. The film stars Sanya Malhotra in the role of a dance teacher, who feels suffocated in marriage bonds. The film exposes the untold women's problems in traditional homes. Aarti Kadav's sensitivity and deep storytelling style will make it an emotional experience.  

Devashish Makhija - Gandhari 

Devashish Makhija, who is known for strong films like Ajji and Bhonsle, is now coming with Action-Thriller Gandhari. The film, released on Netflix, stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role and the story has been  written by Kanika Dhillon. This is the story of a mother's journey full of unwavering love and revenge for her child. Makhija's emotionally deep stories and his grip on social issues will make it an exciting film.

Kajri Babbar - Lioness

Kajri Babbar is bringing a unique story with her first directorial film Lions. The film is the story of two British-Punjabi women, who are associated with a common history despite being of different times. Playing by Aditi Rao Hydari and Page Sandhu, this Indo-UK co-production, Princess Sophia Dalip Singh is inspired by the research of Peter Bans. The film will present an impressive glimpse of the struggle of identity, heritage and equality.
