How S.D. Burman Created Two Songs from One: The Fascinating Story

Sachin Dev Burman, the famous music composer and singer of Hindi and Bengali films, whom we know as S.D.  Burman. We all have heard S.D. Burman's songs, people have been fans of his music and his voice for decades and will continue to be so.

Panchamda's Funny Tale About S.D. Burman and Roshan Revealed

S.D. Burman's son Rahul Dev Burman was also a famous music composer of Hindi films, who was known by people as Pancham or 'Panchamda'. During an interview, he told a funny story about S.D.  Burman and music composer Roshan Lal Nagrath, who is known as Roshan. Let us tell you what an interesting story Panchamda told about S.D.  Burman and Roshan.

In an interview with Prasar Bharati, Panchamda said that one day Roshan ji had come to his father i.e. S.D. Burman Sahab's house, where both of them were sitting and talking about music. During this period, S.D. Burman praised the songs and music of Roshan's film 'Mamta'.

After this, Roshan Ji said, "You don't know how we make songs. This is a secret." Panchamda further says, "This is a matter of learning. Because the public doesn't know how a musician makes songs."

There is a song in Roshan Ji's film Mamta called "Rahe Na Rahe Hum". Talking about this, Panchamda says that Roshan ji told S.D. Burman said that he had taken the meter of an old song of S.D.  Burman for this song. And at the same time, Roshan ji sang S.D. Burman's song "Thandi Hawayein, Lahra Ke Aayein", the meter of which was used by Roshan ji for his song.

On this occasion, Panchamda sang Roshan ji's 'Rahe Na Rahe Hum' on the music of this song by S.D.  Burman so that the audience could know how different the lyrics of Roshan ji's song sound from S.D.  Burman's music and the lyrics of Roshan Ji's song sound like the same music.

Panchamda called this incident schooling and he thought that he should also do the same after that he started composing songs with the meter of hit songs of Shankar-Jaikishan, S.D. Burman, and many other such singers. And giving an example of this is the song he composed with the meter of S.D. Burman's song "Thandi Hawayein, Lahra Ke Aayein" was "Sagar Kinare, Dil Yeh Pukare". He says that he has composed many more songs in the same way.
