Aamir Khan and Genelia D'Souza starrer Sitaare Zameen Par is creating quite a buzz ahead of its release. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. In a recent interaction, Genelia revealed that getting a role in the film wasn’t a cakewalk. She had to go through three rounds of auditions before finally being selected for the part.
Landed 'Sitaare Zameen Par' after three rounds of audition
Genelia said, “I auditioned three times for this film. Aamir Khan Productions has its own unique process for selecting actors, and I was selected through the same. When people found out that I was doing an Aamir Khan film, everyone said, ‘Wow, you’re so lucky!’ And yes, I truly believe it’s Aamir sir’s greatness that he saw something in me and trusted me. But you know what — you too can offer me a role, right? Opportunities should be available to everyone.”
Right casting makes powerful cinema
She further added, “When we cast an actor who is much younger than the character, they often miss the subtleties of the role. That’s why it’s so important to cast actors who match the character’s age, experience, and depth.”
Questions the industry's mindset
In the interview, Genelia also pointed out a troubling pattern in the film industry — that married actresses are often overlooked. She said, “People think a married woman may not suit certain roles. But filmmaking has evolved now. If a character demands a certain age, then cast someone of that age. If you cast someone younger, they may not be able to bring the same nuance.”
Some of Genelia’s popular films
Genelia has acted in many well-known films over the years. Some of her popular works include Satyam (2003), Masti (2004), Sye (2004), Sachin (2005), Happy (2006), Dhee (2007), Ready (2008), Katha (2009), Urumi (2011), Force (2011), Velayudham (2011), Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (2012), Jai Ho (2014), Force 2 (2016), and her Marathi film Ved (2022).
Directed by R.S. Prasanna and starring Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza, Sitaare Zameen Par is set to hit theatres in June 2025.
