How did you prepare for your role as Silloo Manekshaw?
When I read the script, in my mind I already knew I wanted to be in it. But when I first saw Silloo, the first conversation with Meghna was like - “Meghna, I look so much like Silloo.” The character of Silloo spoke to me on many levels. But of course, I delved into extensive research, studying her life, and understanding the nuances of her character. What intrigued me the most was her resilience and unwavering support for Sam Manekshaw during challenging times. Researching and portraying Silloo Manekshaw provided valuable insights into the sacrifices and challenges that military families face. It gave me a profound understanding of the strength and sacrifices that accompany such a lifestyle. Hats off to her!
What was it like working with the cast and crew, especially Vicky and Fatima Sana Shaikh?
It was an amazing experience! The entire cast and crew were incredibly talented and dedicated. Working with Vicky Kaushal, who plays Sam Manekshaw, was enriching in a way. He brought so much depth to the character, and our on-screen chemistry was something we worked hard to build. Meghna Gulzar is brilliant and she guided us all with such precision and passion. But what made this film even more special was Fatima Sana Shaikh. First co-stars are always special. Our first film together was completed five years ago, and this film is a reminder that life has come a long way. Eight years ago, we were kids. I am so proud and happy for us. It warms my heart.
What do you hope audiences take away from Sam Bahadur?
I hope audiences come away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Sam Manekshaw's contributions to India and the sacrifices made by military families. It's a story of courage, resilience, and love. I also hope it inspires people to learn more about our history and the incredible individuals who have shaped it.
