“I Wanted to Direct, But Acting Chose Me,” Reveals Vishaal Mohan

Actor Vishaal Mohan, who will soon be seen in the film Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, began his journey behind the camera, apprenticing under some of Bollywood’s most respected creators. Though filmmaking was his initial ambition, destiny had a different script written for him.

He shared, “I started my career as an assistant director with the film Guzaarish under Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir, and later worked as an AD on Aisha. Acting happened to me unexpectedly, even though my original dream was to become a director.”

U Turn – Zindagi Ki Oor Gave Actor Career Break

A turning point came when he was chosen as the lead for the television show U Turn – Zindagi Ki Oor, completing nearly 150 episodes. “After that, I worked as a lead in TV for two years, moved into advertising, did around 80–100 commercials, and finally decided in 2018 that I wanted to be on the big screen,” he added.

Vishaal’s first major break in films came with Game 100 Crore Ka. Although two of his subsequent films were not release, he remains optimistic. “Now my films are finally releasing, and three movies are coming back-to-back. I truly feel my real journey has begun.”

Eager to explore varied shades as an actor, he shared, “In Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, I play a sincere boy. In Aashiqui Imtehaan Leti Hai, directed by writer, producer and director Shareeph Mansuri, I portray a government officer. In Mehndi 2, directed by Hamid Ali, my look and character are completely different. I enjoy roles that push me out of my comfort zone.”

Vishaal also opened up about his inspirations. “I spent time observing Hrithik Roshan sir during Guzaarish. His discipline, professionalism, and warmth on set left a deep impact on me. I admire both him and Ranbir Kapoor immensely—they are performers I closely study.”

His parents have been a pillar of strength throughout his journey. “They’ve motivated me from the very beginning. Even today, they support every decision I make,” he said.

Being an outsider, Vishaal faced his share of challenges. “I worked non-stop for two years with barely 8–10 days off. Later, I quit TV to wait for strong film opportunities. There were financial struggles too, and after a certain age, you hesitate to ask your parents for help.”

To stay afloat, he diversified—hosting events, starting his own event company, producing web series, and launching a YouTube channel. “The journey has been tough, but I never gave up,” he added.

On the evolving landscape of entertainment, he believes both OTT and cinema have their own appeal. “Each medium has a different audience. Both offer great visibility. I love films, but ultimately, it’s the character that matters more than the platform.”

Vishaal ensures he keeps learning every day. “Before sleeping, I always watch something on Netflix or catch a movie in theaters. I constantly observe people, expressions, and situations—whether I’m walking, travelling, or driving. An actor must stay curious and observant at all times.”
