Indian Actress Somy Ali: Speaking my truth closed doors, but the universe will open more

Former Bollywood actress and activist Somy Ali has never shied away from speaking her truth. As the founder of the non-profit organization No More Tears, which helps victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, she continues to push forward despite the emotional toll of her work. When asked how she takes care of herself emotionally while dealing with difficult cases, Somy shared, “I exercise, and I use the law of manifestation. I wanted to start my own film company for a long time, given that I have filmmaking degrees. When someone banned my American reality show, Totally Unscripted, about No More Tears on Discovery+ and Amazon universally with his power, I created my own second checkmark on my bucket list. The rest, too, will come with time.” Somy firmly believes in karma and justice, stating, “When people close all doors for you because you spoke your truth, it gets the universe and our deities very angry. Therefore, I know help is on the way, and a hundred doors will open.”

Somy Ali Opens Up on Years of Abuse and Trauma

Somy has been open about her personal experiences with abuse. She detailed, “Had I made up any of what I said, my conscience would kill me. There are witnesses, confidantes, and the public who have seen me get abused. The apartment had servants who heard my screams and tended to cigarette burns. I didn’t just write a script; all this happened for years.” Recalling the physical toll, she added, “I had back surgery in 2018 because of a horse fall. But being beaten over and over again while the injury was deteriorating caused me to develop a degenerative disc disease disorder. These were not just one slap here and another a month later—not that that’s okay either. These were sadistic and psychopathic beatings, even on my head when I had to shoot the next day, so there were no scars. It was awful, worse than death.”

Somy is also vocal about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community and the urgent need for legal reform. “If there was one law or policy I could change immediately, it would have to be to give every single equal right a heterosexual has to our LGBTQ communities. Their crimes go highly underreported, and now with Trump and DeSantis, I feel like America died!” she said. She did not hold back on her views regarding former President Donald Trump. “It would be a necessity to place President Trump in a mentally ill facility as he is extremely mentally unstable. I see what our LGBTQ community faces because of my work as the president of an NGO and an activist who works hands-on with the police nationally, and it’s so grotesque that I can’t place it in words.” Many survivors hesitate to come forward due to fear or stigma, but Ali believes that the initiative must come from them. “I don’t [force them]. That is within my training. It is they who have to take the first step and make the initiative to seek help. After that, I come in with the police and take over,” she explained.
