Isha Malviya and Sanju Rathod Discuss Their Marathi Song 'Shaky'

A few days ago, actress Isha Malviya and singer Sanju Rathod—famous for his viral Marathi song Gulabi Sadi—released their latest music video Shaky. The song has been receiving a great response from the audience and has already been watched multiple times within just three days of its release. Recently, Isha and Sanju sat down for an interview where they shared insights into their song, their experience shooting it, and more.

• Congratulations to both of you on this wonderful surprise! Tell us how the idea for this Marathi song came about—especially one that blends Punjabi and Rajasthani themes. And how did Isha’s Marathi debut happen?

Sanju: Thank you so much! Honestly, some things aren’t planned—they just happen. Success, too, often comes when you least expect it. I wanted to do something different, so I created this song with an Afro-style vibe. Then the story began to take shape, and my brother G-Spark added a Rajasthani musical touch. That’s when the idea of a Rajasthani theme struck me. From there, everything just started falling into place. As for the video, full credit goes to the Motion Picture team for their hard work. And that’s also how Isha ended up making her Marathi debut—it was all part of this unique concept that beautifully came together.

• Your effort really shines through! Isha, you danced wearing a 40-kilo lehenga—impressive! We’ve seen you portray emotional roles before, which people loved. But now you’re playing a Marathi girl in Maharashtra. How was that experience for you?

Isha: I’m honestly so happy to debut in the Marathi industry through this song, and I’d love to explore it more. You know, sometimes things just don’t line up—maybe the song is great but the setup isn’t, or the setup is strong but the production falls short. But with Shaky, everything was perfect. The singer was incredible, the production was solid, the director was amazing, and the entire team worked with full dedication. We all gave it our all, and that’s what made it so special for me.

Sanju, where do you draw inspiration for your lyrics? They sound so relatable—almost like something a college student would say.
Sanju: Honestly, it’s all very natural. I don’t go looking for lyrics elsewhere—they just come to me from everyday experiences.

• Your songs often carry emotional depth, but they can also be light-hearted and fun. How do you strike that balance?

Sanju: Even deep songs can be fun if they’re relatable. This one’s a fun track. If I talk to you the way I sing, you’ll feel connected. That’s how I try to write.

Isha, the way you portrayed yourself in this video felt very different. What was it like meeting Sanju for the first time on this project? Had you met before?
Isha: Oh yes, we had met before—several times actually. We always had friendly conversations. But this time on set, we spent a lot of time together—about 24 to 48 hours non-stop. It was a great experience. Sanju looks innocent... but he’s totally not! He randomly starts talking in different languages. He’s honestly a little crazy—but in the best way. And he has a really kind heart.

• Did you learn any Marathi?

Isha: Yes, I learned all the lyrics for the song. Marathi is a little tricky, though, because a word can change its meaning depending on how it’s used. I’ve picked up a few words, but I still have a lot to learn!

• If you had to propose to Isha using a line from one of your hit songs, what would it be?

Sanju (sings): “Tere pyaar mein baar-baar gir raha hoon, khud ko kho baitha hoon.” (From his Marathi song Dimple)

• Sanju, you're from a small village and now seeing this kind of success—has there been a fan moment that really stayed with you?

Sanju: Yes, one moment I’ll never forget. I was at a temple once, and a girl came up to me—she was a huge fan. Normally, people take selfies or autographs and leave, but she came up, touched my feet, and started crying. That kind of love hits different. She said, “You’re my inspiration.” I haven’t done anything extraordinary, but to see someone get emotional like that made me feel so blessed and grateful.

• And you, Isha? Any special fan moment?

Isha: Yes, but I wouldn’t call it a "fan moment" per se. There have been people who didn’t like me at first but over time became not just fans—but family. That kind of journey is more special than any one fan moment. When someone starts valuing you after watching your effort and growth, that’s the real reward. For me, that was the most meaningful moment.

• What’s next for you both?

Sanju: There’s a lot coming up. Like I said, I love experimenting with different sounds and concepts. I’ve got some international collaborations lined up that I’ll be releasing soon. Stay tuned!
