The scenic location of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir is also associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra. Chandanwari, only 16 kms from Pahalgam, is the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra that takes place every year, generally in the month of Saawan (July to August).
There are many places of sightseeing interest in Pahalgam such as elevated Baisaran Valley meadow ("mini Switzerland") where the recent sadistic terrorist-attack took place. This meadow is surrounded by thickly woods and forests of pine-trees. Aru Valley in Pahalgam also known as Adav, is also a visually enchanting meadow.
Mamleshwar Mandir is an ancient Shiva temple here, in Pahalgam considered to be one of the Kashmir's oldest existing temples.
Hajan Valley or Hajan Wadi is another picturesque valley close to Pahalgam, which was later renamed as "Betaab Valley" after the 1983 superhit musical Bollywood film "Betaab" was shot there, featuring lead star-actors Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh
