Kriti Sanon Sparks Memes, Debates Over 2200-Page Thesis After Tere Ishq Mein Release

Dhanush and Kriti Sanon's film 'Tere Ishq Mein' is currently trending on social media for a rather unusual reason. The film recently started streaming on the OTT platform Netflix, and since then, a particular scene has become the subject of much discussion among research scholars and PhD students. The reason is a scene in the film where Kriti Sanon's character claims to have submitted her PhD thesis in a whopping 2200 pages.

Kriti Sanon’s 2200-Page PhD Scene Sparks Online Debate

In the film, Kriti Sanon plays the role of Mukti Beniwal, a psychology research student pursuing her research at Delhi University. In one scene, Mukti states that she completed her PhD thesis in 2200 pages. As soon as this scene was seen by viewers after the film's release on Netflix, research scholars reacted strongly on social media.

PhD Students Troll Kriti Sanon Film’s 2200-Page Claim

PhD students, in particular, found this claim unrealistic. Many took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to question this part of the film through posts and memes. One user wrote, “I really want to meet the PhD student who wrote a 2200-page thesis. I understand that films often exaggerate, but this is too much. They should have kept it a little closer to reality.”

Another research scholar wrote in their post, “I wrote every day for four years and only managed to complete a 385-page thesis. I loved research, but writing the thesis was one of the most difficult tasks, so really 2200 pages is absolutely unbelievable.”

Many of them commented that such a long thesis would be outright rejected at the supervisor's level. They said, "The supervisor would reject such a thick thesis right away.” Another comment stated that the entire research process in the film is depicted very superficially and it seems as if there are no distinct stages involved in research.

Some of them, researching in science and other fields, also joined the debate. They said that regardless of the subject, a PhD thesis has a typical length, and the idea of a thesis exceeding two thousand pages seems far-fetched. Some users jokingly commented that not only this aspect, but many other things in the film are far removed from reality.
'Tere Ishq Mein' was directed by Anand L. Rai. The film was released in theaters in November 2025. It earned approximately 161 crore rupees at the box office. However, the film received mixed reviews from critics.
Now that the film has arrived on an OTT platform, a new segment of the audience is watching it, and these same people are raising questions about some of its scenes.
