On December 13, legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle launched her new song 'Saiyaan Bina' in a special event in Mumbai. The song, which she recorded with her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, was a heartfelt collaboration. The music supervisor for the song is Anand Bhosle. At the age of 91, Asha Bhosle shared her emotional journey in the music industry during the launch.

Asha Bhosle Reflects on 80 Years in Music with Passion

Reflecting on her extraordinary career, Asha Bhosle spoke emotionally about her life and musical journey: “I entered the film industry when I was just 10 years old. I’ve spent 80 years working in this industry. At 91, I feel like I’m already heading towards 92. I live in the present, not the past or the future. In my studio (which she fondly calls her 'palace'), many people used to visit. It was here I spent most of my time, often more than I did at home. If I went home, I would return by the next morning. Hundreds of musicians, producers, directors, and artists would come to listen to my music.”

During the event, she also paid tribute to some of her favorite composers with whom she worked throughout her career. She said, “The composers I’ve always loved are etched in my memory. I’ve worked with greats like Jaidev ji, Madan Mohanji, S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, and many others.” She further emphasized, "Life moves with music; life feels better with music."

Asha Bhosle expressed how happy she was to share this new song with her granddaughter,  Zanai. “I’m so proud to sing with my granddaughter, who is 21, while I am 92. The support she gave me is something I could never repay, but she will undoubtedly carry my legacy forward,” said Asha.

Regarding the experience, Zanai Bhosle shared, “There was no pressure for me to sing this song. I’m incredibly proud to be part of this family. But when I spent time with my grandmother during the COVID lockdown, I began to understand the struggles she faced in her life and the incredible place she holds today.” Zanai also mentioned that she strives to make her grandmother proud through hard work and dedication.

Music composer Nitin Shankar spoke about the song’s creation, saying, “The music for ‘Saiyaan Bina’ is designed to match Asha Ji’s unique style. The sweetness and the melodic lines that define her voice have been incorporated into the track. This song blends South and North Indian musical elements, creating a fusion for the modern generation.”

Lyrical writer Mahima Bhardwaj, who penned the lyrics for ‘Saiyaan Bina,’ expressed her love for the song: “It’s a beautiful composition, and my favorite line is, ‘Tum bin aadha adhura hai’.”

At 91, Asha Bhosle’s latest song holds a special significance. Not only does it showcase her musical genius, but it also highlights her life’s experiences and the confluence of four generations of musical legacy.

Throughout her illustrious career, Asha Bhosle has sung more than 16,000 songs in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Malayalam, English, and even Russian. Some of her most iconic songs include “O Mere Sona Re Sona Re,” “Jara Sa Jhoom Loon Main,” “Rangila Re,” “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko,” and “Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar.”
