Gay Bombay Icon Award Onir

Discussing the award, Onir stated, "Let me tell you, this award  means a lot to me which is honoured by Gay Bombay.". This community has been an extremely significant part of the queer experience in India. When I began my career as a filmmaker, I was extremely lonely many times. I was narrating stories that most people did not want to hear and I also had issues just for being honest about who I am. But year after year it was the kindness of This community and the resilience of so many queer individuals that kept me from giving up. This award isn't just mine, it's for all of us who still dream of a world where we don't need to hide who we are, a world where we can be treated with dignity and a world where love is embraced without conditions. Receiving this award in Mumbai, the city that provided me an opportunity and allowed me to find my voice, makes it even more special." (Onir contribution to queer rights in India)
