On Friday, October 3, a special screening of the historical animated series Kurukshetra , set to release on the OTT platform Netflix (Netflix), was held at the Delhi Secretariat. The event was graced by the Minister of Art, Culture, Language, and Tourism, Kapil Mishra, as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Tourism Secretary and Managing Director of DTTDC Niharika Rai, Netflix India Public Policy Director Mahima Kaul writer-director Ujaan founder of the popular magazine Mayapuri P. K. Bajaj students of Delhi College of Arts, senior government officials, and several distinguished guests.
Kapil Mishra Praises the Series
On the occasion, Mr. Kapil Mishra appreciated the animated series, saying it does full justice to profound subjects connected to faith and history, such as the Gita, Kurukshetra, and the Mahabharat He added that the series presents its subject with complete seriousness and sensitivity. The honorable minister also called upon all content writers, filmmakers, and creators to bring forward content that contributes to nation-building and showcases India’s glorious stories to the world. He said, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s mantra ‘Development as well as Heritage’ guides us in this direction. In the coming years, the Delhi government aims to develop Delhi as a core sector for AVCG—Animation, Visual Effects, Comics & Gaming (AVCG)—and a global content hub.”
Mahima Kaul of Netflix India Speaks
During the event, Netflix India Public Policy Director Mahima Kaul stated that Kurukshetra is Netflix’s first mythological animated series, created to connect multiple generations. She said it is relevant even for those who grew up watching the Mahabharat on Doordarshan, and the team aims to present it in a fresh style for young audiences.
She further said that in line with the government’s “Make in India, For the World” vision, their goal is to present stories deeply rooted in Indian culture, and Kurukshetra reflects this ethos. The series will be available in multiple Indian and international languages, with subtitles in 34 languages. It also includes Hindi audio description to make it inclusive, allowing audiences worldwide to experience this epic saga.

About the Series
Netflix’s web series brings to life the historic period of the Mahabharat when the great war was fought between the Kauravas and Pandavas in the fields of Kurukshetra for 18 days. The Delhi government’s Tourism Department is also playing a significant role in promoting this animated series based on India’s historical heritage.
The first season of the historical animated series Kurukshetra will premiere on Netflix on October 10. The series is created by Anu Sikka and produced by Tipping Point in collaboration with Alok Jain, Anu Sikka and Ajit Andhare The writer-director of the series is Ujaan Ganguly (Ujaan Ganguly). The series is further enriched by the beautiful works of the renowned poet and filmmaker Gulzar, whose words add authentic emotional depth to the story.
