Nikita Luthra, an international poker player, was recently seen on Amazon Prime’s reality show The Traitors. In a recent interview, she spoke about various topics including the show’s format, host Karan Johar, her experience during the shoot, and who she thinks was the strongest player on the show. Let’s find out what she had to say.

How was your trailer launch experience?

We were invited to Yash Raj Studios where a grand set was created. We were instructed on how to remove the cloak dramatically, and the experience was absolutely “larger than life.” We didn’t expect such grandeur.

What was the shoot like?

The shoot took place in a palace-like hotel — everything felt royal and grand. We weren’t told in advance that Karan Johar would be the host or where the shoot location would be. Our phones were taken away, and we had no outside contact for two weeks. It was truly a “captive reality” experience.

 The Traitors: Karan Johar

How did it feel to live without your phone and internet for two weeks?

Coming from a business background, I actually enjoyed the peace. But the show had a dark and mysterious vibe. Some people were asking to speak with their mothers, some even cried. It was a high-anxiety environment, and the format didn’t allow for any personal interaction.

What is your family background? Are you from a business family?

No, my mother was a teacher and my father was in the Air Force. I’m a businesswoman, but I come from a middle-class background.

Karan Johar

How did you get selected for Karan Johar’s show?

Amazon Prime contacted me directly for the show. They were specifically looking for a poker player because the show demanded strategy and mind games. There were multiple interview rounds, including a psychological assessment to ensure we were a good fit for the format.

What kind of questions were you asked during the interviews?

One question was: “Can you lie while looking someone in the eye at the table?” I said, “I’m not sure — I bluff with chips in poker, not with words.” So it was a new experience for me.

When did you first meet Karan Johar?

In the first episode — when he suddenly appeared on the palace rooftop and said, “Welcome to the palace.” That’s when we realized he was the host. Everything had been kept under wraps till that moment.

Did you deceive anyone on the show?

I deceived the least. My strategy was — play honestly, like in poker. I’m bluffing — now it’s up to you whether you believe me or not. Real strength lies in truth.

Who do you think was the strongest player on the show?

Everyone was smart, but I have a lot of respect for Karan Kundrra and Raftaar. Maheep Kapoor also understands the reality show space very well. Everyone brought something unique to the table.

What are your future plans? Films or music videos?

I don’t have any plans right now. I just came to play the game. But I did make some great connections. Let’s see what happens next.

Who are your favorite actors and actresses?

On the show, I loved Urfi Javed. In films, I admire Kareena Kapoor Khan, and among male actors, Aamir Khan is my favorite.

Any message for your fans?

I come from outside the industry, and that’s my biggest strength. The people who underestimate you can become your greatest power. Never reveal your plans — just show them by doing it.
