“Not just length, the strength of the role matters more”,  says 'DDPD-2' heroine Rakul Preet Singh who shares her B’Day with iconic Rekha !! By Sr. Journalist Chaitanya Padukone

 After her maverick rom-com movie ‘De De Pyar De’ ( opposite Ajay Devgn) released , sensuous style-icon actress Rakul Preet Singh won huge appreciation for her riveting role as ‘the other hottie woman—who is young, bold, frank, yet committed ’.  Recalls Rakul, “Everyone felt it was a tailor-made role for me. But I really felt it was the movie ( ‘DDPD’) which selected me. It was an unconventional progressive climax, yet the masses loved my  sensitive, convincing performance,” smiles versatile Rakul, who as a mega-star also has some 30 plus popular Southside multi-regional released movies to her commendable credit. Ravishing Rakul, who made her Bollywood debut with  ‘Yaariyan’ (2014) , was also appreciated for her riveting performance in movie ‘Marjaavaan’ directed by talented Milap Milan Zaveri  ( of latest Mastiii-4 fame)  

 Interestingly, Rakul, also a lover-of-beaches and seaside waters,  shares her birthday (Oct 10th) with that of  iconic senior ravishing actress Rekha  !!  Enthuses Rakulpreet, “It’s quite surreal that director Milap-sir had approached me to play  the role of a vivacious sex-worker-danseuse ‘Arzoo’. Which has its striking similarity to the classic character ‘Zohra’ played by legendary  Rekha in the milestone movie ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’(1978). As my ‘prep’, I even went to observe actual ‘bar-dancers’ and their seductive body-language. It’s more of an extended cameo with bhaari-bharkam dialogues, but no over-acting or hamming. Plus there was a mesmerizing remix song-dance situation ( ‘Haiya Ho’). My headstrong yet cultured character also indulges in sher-o-shaayri and is madly in love with the hero Sidharth Malhotra’s macho character .It’s not just the length, even strength of the impactful role matters more,” shrugs the ‘Aiyaary’ girl ! 

Did you know, that Rakulpreet has acted with co-star Rajkummar Rao in this romantic comedy movie 'Shimla Mirchi' directed by legendary Ramesh Sippy ( of mega-blockbuster 'Sholay' @ 50 years fame). This movie which finally released in January 2020 after a long delay.  It also marked co-producer Ramesh Sippy's return to 'film-direction' after a 25-year gap !

Not many may recall that, Rakul participated in the 'Femina Miss India Pageant' (2011)  where she was placed fifth and she won five pageant titles including 'Miss India People's Choice " Following which in the same 2011 year, Rakul made her debut in Telugu films in a lead in Southside regional movie Keratam !
Very soon Rakul Preet Singh will complete a score-count of "half-century"  when her 50th film  releases by end of 2026 !
