“My friends are my children. Outside the film industry, I have four special friends — Ashok, who lives in Singapore and works as an engineer; Vikas, an industrialist in London; Raman, a pilot in Delhi; and Vivek, another businessman.

Friendship doesn’t mean meeting every day. A true friend is someone who, even if you talk after two or ten years, still feels just the same as before.

In Bollywood, Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza are like family to me. Karan Johar is not my friend — he’s my wife Gauri’s friend. That’s why he respects me a lot. His father, Yash Johar, was my friend.

When we work with other actors, we get along really well on set, but once the film is over, we rarely meet again. The truth is, in Bollywood, we don’t really have the time to maintain friendships.

I share good relations with Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, and Madhuri Dixit Nene too, but there isn’t much common ground for conversation, so we naturally drift apart. I’m actually a very unsocial person. As soon as my work is done, I rush back to my family — to my home. My wife is a wonderful and kind-hearted person.”

“A few years ago, I was shooting in London for one of my films. After two long years, all four of my close friends showed up together on the set. I asked, ‘How come you’re here?’ They said, ‘We just missed you and wanted to see you.’

I told them honestly that I was busy shooting and wouldn’t be able to give them time. They said, ‘That’s okay.’ We didn’t meet again during that trip. When I was leaving, they just waved goodbye to me at the airport.
