Renowned actor and filmmaker Trupti Bhoir was recently invited to speak at the India Caucus at the Kennedy School, Harvard University, where she shared her inspiring journey and introduced her upcoming film Paro: The Untold Story of Slavery. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gajendra Ahire, the film shines a light on the dark realities of child trafficking and forced marriage issues that are not confined to India but resonate across the world. The film is produced under the banners of Trupti Bhoir Films and Sharaddha Pvt. Ltd.
Paro Leaves Boston Audience Moved
The invitation followed a houseful private screening of Paro in Boston, hosted in collaboration with the Don Foundation. The powerful narrative and emotional depth of the film struck a chord with the audience, thanks in part to the efforts of advisor Priya Samant. The impact of the screening led to deeper engagement from members of the India Caucus.
Reflecting on the moment, Bhoir shared, “Paro is not just India’s story; it’s a global issue. When the Kennedy School took notice, they embraced it with heart. Being recognised by such a prestigious institution despite having little formal education was deeply emotional for me. It reaffirmed that Paro is no longer just a film it’s a movement for change, one that crosses borders and brings hidden truths into the light.”
During her address, Bhoir also highlighted how the topic resonates worldwide, with discussions led by university members like K. Khan, who noted that child marriage remains legal in all but six U.S. states.
Trupti Bhoir’s participation not only marked a personal milestone but also amplified the urgency of Paro’s message. With her film now serving as a global call to action, Bhoir continues to use cinema as a tool for awareness, empathy, and transformation.
